three approaches
in integration?
multidisciplinary

transdisciplinary
Multidisciplinary Approach
• Focused on the
disciplines/subjects
• Organized standards
from the disciplines
around a theme

Types of Multidisciplinary Approach
Intradisciplinary
• Integrates the subdisciplines
within a subject area

For example, integrated writing,

reading, and oral communication
in language arts

Integration of history, geography,

economics, and government in
social studies

Sample Project: Web Development for a Non-Profit
Organization
Objective: To create a fully functional website for a non-profit organization
that promotes a cause the students care about.

1. Front-End Development
2. Back-End Development
3. Database Management
4. User Authentication and Authorization
5. Graphic Design and Multimedia Integration
6. Testing and Debugging
7. Project Management and Collaboration
Types of Multidisciplinary Approach
Intradisciplinary Fusion
• Integrates the subdisciplines • ”fuses” skills, knowledge, or
within a subject area even attitudes in a regular
school curriculum
For example, integrated writing,
reading, and oral communication For example, students learn how to
in language arts respect the environment or
positive work habits in every

Sample Project: Architectural Model Design and
Presentation
Objective: To design and create a detailed architectural model using
technical drafting skills, while also integrating principles of architecture,
engineering, and presentation techniques.

1. Technical Drafting Fundamentals

2. Architecture and Design Principles
3. Engineering and Structural Analysis
4. Presentation Techniques
5. Scale and Proportion
6. Materials and Construction Techniques
7. Project Management and Time Management
8. Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Types of Multidisciplinary Approach
Service Learning
• Integrates community projects
during class hours

For example, distribution of relief

packs after a typhoon as a
recovery and rehabilitation effort.

Sample Project: Electrical Safety Awareness
Campaign

Objective: The objective of this project is to raise

awareness about electrical safety in the community
and promote safe electrical practices.
Types of Multidisciplinary Approach
Service Learning Learning Centers
or Parallel Disciplines
• Integrates community projects • Addressing a topic or theme
during class hours through the lenses of
different subject areas
For example, distribution of relief
packs after a typhoon as a
recovery and rehabilitation effort. For example, a learning center allows
students to explore a certain topic or
theme as they move and complete
the activities related to various
disciplines.

Sample Project: Designing and Building a small-scale
sustainable house
1. Science: principles of physics and engineering, energy-efficient
designs, insulation materials, harness renewable energy sources.

2. Mathematics: calculate the dimensions, angles, and measurements,

and budgeting and cost estimation.

3. Social Studies: cultural and historical aspects of sustainable

architecture in different regions, traditional methods and how they
align with modern concepts of eco-friendly housing.
Types of Multidisciplinary Approach
Theme Based Units
• Integrates by sequencing
a content and planning
collaboratively for a
multidisciplinary unit
• Ends with a culminating
activity

Sample Project: Theme-Sustainable Agriculture
Grade Level: High School (9th Grade)

Duration: 6 weeks

Subjects integrated: Agriculture, Biology, Environmental Science, Mathematics,

and Entrepreneurship.

Week 1: Introduction to Sustainable Agriculture

Week 2: Understanding Soil Health
Week 3: Crop Selection and Planting
Week 4: Water Management
Week 5: Sustainable Pest and Disease Management
Week 6: Entrepreneurship and Marketing
Interdisciplinary Approach
• Organizes the curriculum around
common learnings across disciplines

Carlo Joseph Moskito <carlojoseph.moskito@gmail.com 19

Sample: Theme-Green Technology and
Sustainable Design
Grade Level: High School (10th Grade)

Duration: 8 weeks

Subjects integrated: Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) - Electrical Installation and
Maintenance, Science, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies.

Week 1: Introduction to Green Technology and Sustainability

Week 2: Energy Sources and Efficiency
Week 3: Sustainable Building Design
Week 4: Electrical Systems for Sustainable Buildings
Week 5: Waste Management and Recycling
Week 6: Sustainable Transportation
Week 7: Green Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Week 8: Green Technology Fair
Transdisciplinary
Approach
• Teachers organize curriculum
around student questions
and concerns

Carlo Joseph Moskito <carlojoseph.moskito@gmail.com 21

>
Types of Transdisciplinary Approach
Project-Based
Learning
• Students tackle a local problem
• Also problem-based learning or
place-based learning

Carlo Joseph Moskito <carlojoseph.moskito@gmail.com 22

>
Project-Based Learning
1. Teachers and students select a topic of study based on
student interests, curriculum standards, and local resources.
2. The teacher finds out what the students already know and helps
them generate questions to explore. The teacher also provides
resources for students and opportunities to work in the field.
3. Students share their work with others in a culminating
activity. Students display the results of their exploration and
review and evaluate the project

Sample project: Building a Virtual Management System
Grade Level: High School (10th Grade)

Duration: 6 weeks

Subject: Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) - Computer Programming

Objective: In this problem-based learning approach, students will work in groups to design and
develop a virtual library management system. The system will enable librarians to efficiently
manage book records, checkouts, and returns, while also providing users with an easy way to
search and access library resources.

Week 1: Problem Identification and Analysis

Week 2: System Planning and Design
Week 3: Application Development - Part 1
Week 4: Application Development - Part 2
