Do you know the definition and
impacts of ‘urban sprawl’?
Sprawling cities consume green spaces,
 Urban Sprawl involves the expansion of urban
settlements into the surrounding rural areas
affecting wildlife habitats as well as reducing
available farmland
More cars means there is more traffic
leading to more types of pollution such as
noise and air pollution
People in sprawling cities may live further
away from their families and friends leading
to social isolation
Building on the outskirts of sprawling cities
costs money which may lead to higher tax
for people.
Do you know where the congestion
charge and the ultra low emission zone
(ULEZ) is?
The Congestion Charge was set around the M25
and is a £15 daily charge if you drive within the
Congestion Charge zone.
This is between 07:00-22:00, every day.

It operates the same area as ULEZ: Most


vehicles, including cars and vans, need to meet
the ULEZ emissions standards or their drivers
must pay a daily charge to drive within the zone.
The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) operates
24/7/365
