• A work area is a specific region allocated for

• Every maintenance organization must have at

least one work area
• A maintenance organization can have one or more

• A work area consists of one or more work centers

within it.

Resources
• A resource represents either equipment or labor that is
needed to perform maintenance activities.
• Resource instances are granular representations of a

resource. One or more resource instances can be
associated to a resource.
• A resource can be scheduled in the work definition and

• A resource can be charged to a work order based on the

rate defined.

Work Center
• The work centers are specific production units
that consist of people or equipment with similar

• Each work center is associated with a valid work

Assets
• An asset is an item, thing, or entity that has potential
or actual value to an organization. An asset definition
is the data content representing an asset
• When an asset is defined, the asset is available to be

maintained and repaired

• User can manage following aspects of Assets

 Asset Data: The asset data represents its
physical form. It enables to identify an asset,
define its relationship, define location of the
asset, default parameters for work order
execution.
 Part Lists: A list of all the parts and components
(items) that constitute an asset

• Meters are created to model a physical meter that is
installed on an asset
• Meter readings provide a historical record of an asset

use or asset condition at user-defined intervals
• As part of meters management, users can perform the

 Review reading history

Maintenance Programs
• A maintenance program consists of multiple work
requirements. Users can build a maintenance
forecast and use the forecast to automatically create
maintenance work orders
• Work requirements define the tasks and the

frequency at which the tasks must be performed to
maintain an asset. A work requirement is the
association of work definitions and schedule
patterns
• A work requirement can be created for an asset or

an item

Prioritize the work orders in your

maintenance organization for release
based on certain parameters like
availability of materials.
Create rules to assign materials to the

work orders in your organization, and
execute work orders based on the
assignment priority sequence.
Calculate material availability to create

the list of work orders and their
corresponding assignment sequence
based on the rules earlier defined.

Release and Pick Materials for Work Orders
Release work order action

enables the work
execution.
The materials required for

executing a work order
can be picked from
inventory, from a storage
location using pick action.
Picking is allowed only for

work orders in released
status.

Executing Maintenance Work
• Maintenance dispatch list is used to review the
work order operations and report various
transactions.
• Users can record the consumption of materials

and resources.
• Users can complete the operations and can also

reverse the transaction if needed.
• Users can report maintenance exception if any in

the execution of maintenance task like
unavailability of labor.

Executing Maintenance Work

Outside Processing
• Outside processing is one of the key activities on the
shop floor.
• After you identify a supplier, the terms of the contract

are set between the OEM and the supplier as a
blanket agreement.
• Every time you perform an outside processing activity,

a separate purchase request and a corresponding
purchase order is created.
• Purchase Order is then received.
• Review of the supplier operation details, provides a

bird’s eye view of the purchase request, purchase
order, shipment and receipt.

• Maintenance Work Order costing supports all

costing methods – Standard, Average, Actual FIFO
• We can define cost by asset, work order or type of

work performed, providing us the insight we need to
control material and resource costs.
