1. PREWRITING
Is the first step in the writing process. It has three parts:

 Choosing your topic (experiences, listening, reading, imagination)

 Exploring your topic (brainstorming, clustering, charts, interviews, reporter´s


formula, freewriting)

 Organizing or planning your writing (chronological order, flashback, spatial


order, comparison and contrast, order of importance, question and answer, logical
order)
2. DRAFTING
Is getting your ideas down on paper. You don´t worry about mistakes.

TIPS: Transitions :
 Write sentences and paragraphs  Time: before, after, finally
(Use the SEE method, topic  Cause/effect: because, so that,
sentence) therefore, if…then
 Spatial: above, around, down
 Write a beginning and an ending  Comparison/Contrast: however,
(Introduction and Conclusion) although, instead
 Importance: above all, better, worst of

 Make transitions (to give unity

3. REVISING
Is to make changes to your draft to make it
clearer or more interesting.
The Big Questions: Tips:
 Did I say what I wanted to  Cross out

 Did I organize the facts,  Use numbers to show order
events, or ideas clearly?
 Add attachments or posts to

4. PROOFREADING
Is correcting spelling, capitalization, punctuation, correct word choice,
complete sentences, and indented paragraphs.

Use symbols, such as:


¶ indent a paragraph or begin a new one
^ to add letters or words
to take out letters or words
change a capital to a small letter
change small letter to capital
reverse letters or words
5. PUBLISHING
Is to share your writing with an audience.

 Send your paper by e-mail


 Submit it to the local or school´s newspaper
 Present your paper as a speech to the class
 Illustrate your writing with photographs or drawings
 Create a panel discussion or debate around your paper.
