SMCS’ END OF SCHOOL YEAR READING PROGRAM,

IT’S FIRST EVER MILESTONE

(WEEK 2)
The National Learning Recovery Program underscores the need to address learning losses among
students caused by the COVID-19 pandemic’s disruption of in-person schooling.

In line with the “MATATAG: Bansang Makabata, Batang Makabansa” agenda, which is the new
direction of DepEd, San Manuel Centra School implemented the NLC in Reading (End-of School
Year Reading Program) las July 31, 2023
to resolve basic education challenges particularly in reading
among incoming Grades 1 to 3 learners most specially the
struggling learners.
With the second week of NLC’s implementation, (August 3- 7, 2023) the teachers remained
committed in addressing Filipino learners’ low performance in reading, they prioritized the fitted
techniques and strategies that would best fit to improve leaner’s reading abilities (diverse range of
enrichment activities for learners who are ready for their grade levels, remediation activities for
struggling learners.)

Last July 28, 2023, Dr. Alexious D. Rupac, Principal 3, at the same
time, the District In-Charge of San Manuel District convened
the NLC volunteered teachers for collaboration review of instruction.
These were the important notes/ experiences that they’ve found out that
would need to be adopt to improve reading skills:

First, Fun-filled activities help create an engaging and enjoyable learning

environment, making pupils more motivated and eager to participate actively

Second, incorporating fun activities encourage active participation, critical

thinking, problem-solving, and improves retention of information.
Moreover, by making learning enjoyable, through games, colorful instructional material
that was jived with their lessons’ objectives, pupils are more likely to remember and apply what
they have learned.
And the most important thing is, by including activities that are both educational and
enjoyable, we can ignite a genuine passion for learning in students, promoting a lifelong love
for knowledge.
To sum it up, with the integration of fun-filled activities like playing games, dancing and singing (letters
and its sounds were included the lyrics, the second week was concluded successfully, with the collective and
efforts and with the help of the active and supportive school’s stakeholders, whose unwavering support is integral
to the success of this groundbreaking initiative, without a doubt, that it will one of the contributing factors for
the success of the forthcoming school year 2023-2024, and SMCS will surely achieve DepEd Isabela’s
philosophy that no every leaner will be left behind, since SMCS is at its BEST for maintaining a “high quality
education” through advocating “Sustaining Management for Championing San Manueleños (SMCS) and
implementing different programs, projects and activities (PPAs) to sustain being a “Child-friendly school
always,” as its guiding principle that brought it to be one of the “Top-Performing School,” not only in the San
Manuel District but to the Schools Division of Isabela.
