INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH
ORGANISATION(ISRO)

I PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN
ISRO
 ISRO stands for INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH
ORGANISATION.
 ISRO was formed in 15 August 1969.
 Vikram Sarabhai was the founder of ISRO.
 INCOSPAR(Indian National Committee for Space
Research) is the old name of ISRO.
 ISRO built India’s first satellite called ARYABHATA.
 ISRO holds a rank % in world’s top 2% and In
world’s top 10%.
 ISRO uses Satish Dhawan space center to launch
satellites.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND SUCCESS
MISSIONS BY ISRO

A FAILURE IS NEED TO LEARN AND TURN IT INTO SUCCESS TO REACH MILESTONE.

-ISRO
ARYABHATA
 Aryabhata was India’s first satellite , named after
the famous Indian astronomer.
 It was launched on 19 April 1975.
 The launch came from an agreement between India
and the soviet union.
 It was built to conduct experiments in x-ray
astronomy , aeronomics and solar physics.
 A powerful failure halted experiments after four
days and 60 orbits with that all signals from the
spacecraft lost after five days of the operation.
 Spacecraft mainframe remained active till march
1981.
 Due to orbital decay the satellite entered earth’s
atmosphere on 10 February 1992.
SLV-3
 The SLV is stands for satellite Launch vehicle was
a small lift launch vehicle project started in the
early 1970.
 SLV was intended to reach a height of 400 km
and carry a payload of 40kg.
 The first experimental flight of SLV-3, in august
1979, was a failure.
 The first successful launch took place on 18 July
1980.
 It was a four-stage rocket with all solid-
propellant motors.
 SLV-3 had took 4 launches in that it success in 2
launches.
PSLV
o PSLV stands for POLAR SATELLITE LAUNCH VEHICLE is an
expendable medium-lift launch vehicle designed and
operated by ISRO.
o PSLV had took 55 launches on this 53 get success and 2
are failures.
o It costs ₹130crore(US $16million) - ₹200(US $25 million)
per launch.
o It was developed to allow India to launch its INDIAN
REMOTE SENSING(IRS) satellites into sun-synchronous
orbits.
o It is successful to deploying 104 satellite in SSO in the year
2017.
o PSLV has gained credibility as a leading provider of
rideshare service for small satellites.
GSLV
 GSLV stands for Geosynchronous
Satellite Launch Vehicle.
 It is an expendable launch system
operated by ISRO.
 This project was initiated in 1980.
 GSLV was used in fourteen launches
from 2001 to 2021,with more launches
planned.
 It is an entirely different launch
vehicle.
 It costs ₹384 crores (Us $47 million)
per launch.
CHANDRAYA
AN-1
 CHANDRAYAN-1 was the first Indian lunar probe under the
Chandrayaan program.
 It was launched by ISRO in October 2008,and operated until
2009.
 This probe was launched using PSLV launching vehicle.
 This mission was a major boost to Indian space program.
 This experiment leads to the discovery of widespread
presence of water molecules.
 The estimated cost for the project was ₹386 crore.
 Chandrayaan-1 operated for 312 days after that it stopped
communicating on 287 august 2009.
MANGALYAAN
• MANGALYAAN is also called as Mars
Orbiter Mission(MOM) is a space
probe orbiting mars since 24
September 2014.
• It was launched on 5 November
2013.
• It is India’s first interplanetary
mission and it made it the fourth
space agency to achieve mars orbit.
• The total cost of the mission was
approximately ₹450 crore.
CHANDRAYA
AN-2
 chandrayaan-2 is the second lunar
exploration mission developed by ISRO.
 It consists of lunar orbiter , Vikram lander,
Pragyan lunar rover.
 It was launched on 22 July 2019 by using
GSLV launching vehicle.
 The craft reached the moon’s orbit on 20
August 2019.
 The lander crashed when it deviated from
its intended trajectory while attempting to
land on 6 September 2019.
 The total cost for the mission is 603 crore.
UPCOMING INDIAN SPACE EXPLORATION
MISSIONS

THE MISSIONS MADE INDIANS TO BECOME NO1

ADITYA-L1
Aditya-L1 is a spacecraft to
study solar atmosphere.
It will be inserted in a halo
orbit around the L1 point
between earth and sun.
It is the first dedicated Indian
mission to observe sun.
It is planned to launched in
January 2023.
It costs approximately ₹379
crore
CHANDRAYA
AN-3
Chandrayaan-3 is a planned
third lunar exploration mission
by ISRO.
It is launched on July 2023.
It cost a budget of ₹615 crore.
It is similar to chandrayaan-2
but it will not have an orbiter
GAGANYAAN
 GAGANYAAN is an Indian spacecraft
of the INDIAN HUMAN SPACEFLIGHT
PROGRAMME.
 The spacecraft is being designed to
carry three people.
 The government approved this
mission for ₹10,000 crore(US $1.5
billion).
 It is expected to be launched in 2024.
THIS WILL TAKE INDIA INTO NEXT LEVEL
