Absheron Peninsula
•Oil production on the Absheron Peninsula,
which provides more than 70% of the demand
for oil in the USSR, reached its highest level.
For this reason, the oil fields in the peninsula
covered wider areas, most of them were
created in the areas of suitable agricultural land
in the immediate vicinity of settlements.
Bibiheybat, Binagadi, Balakhani, Sabunchu,
Surakhani, Garadag, Mashtaga, Buzovna,
Gala, Pirallahi and many other oil fields can be
cited as examples.
Groundwater levels in;
• Pirshagi-Kurdakhani,
• Bina-Airport,
• Saray-Khirdalan,
• Binagadi-Novkhani,
• Mashtag,
•and many other places of the
Absheron peninsula is very close to
the location of groundwater levels, as
much as 5,000 hectares of useful land
became swamped, salted and
unusable.
•The amount of absorbed sodium varies
between 10-30 percent. Therefore, in order
to fully restore oil-contaminated lands on
the Absheron peninsula, in addition to
reclamation measures, reclamation measures
should also be implemented in partially
saline areas, the water-salt regime of the soil
should be regulated, and advanced irrigation
methods should be used in agricultural
areas.
