SPRING: A TIME OF RENEWAL

Presented by: Derick Williams

All men die, but few ever live …
Renewal of your Mind …

Romans 12:2
2. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by
the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what
is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
What is NLP …
• Neuro: Our nervous system, how we process experiences through our senses. It involves
understanding the connections between our mental processes, emotions, and
physiological responses. NLP suggests that by becoming aware of how we perceive the
world through our senses, we can gain insights into our thought patterns and behaviours.
• Linguistic: This component involves language and how we use it to communicate both
internally (self-talk) and externally (with others). NLP emphasizes the impact of language
on our thoughts and behaviours. It explores how different linguistic patterns can affect
our perception of reality and how we can use language more effectively to communicate
and influence others.
• Programming: In this context, "programming" refers to the idea that we can understand
and change our thought and behaviour patterns. NLP proposes that by recognizing and
modifying our mental processes, we can achieve personal growth and self-improvement.
This component involves techniques to reframe negative beliefs, overcome phobias,
manage emotions, and achieve specific goals.
Spring
By Gerard Manley Hopkins

Nothing is so beautiful as Spring –

When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush;
Thrush’s eggs look little low heavens, and thrush
Through the echoing timber does so rinse and wring
The ear, it strikes like lightning’s to hear him sing;
The glassy pear tree leaves and blooms, they brush
The descending blue; that blue is all in a rush
With richness; the racing lambs too have fair their fling.

What is all this juice and all this joy?

A strain of the earth’s sweet being in the beginning
In Eden garden. – Have, get, before it cloy,
Before it cloud, Christ, lord, and sour with sinning,
Innocent mind and Mayday in girl and boy,
Most, O maid’s child, thy choice and worthy the winning.
Towards an Analysis

Hopkins celebrates the physical beauty of the
season while also exploring the themes of
innocence, purity, and the transient nature of
joy. The poem invites readers to appreciate the
fleeting moments of vitality and beauty in the
world around them.
Are you quitting to soon?
For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your
growth so is he for your pruning. Even as he ascends to your height and
caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun, so shall he
descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

The NLP Principles

Communication model:
Representational Systems (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Olfactory,
Gustatory)
Sensory acuity & Sensory awareness
Rapport Building & Mirroring
Anchoring: Creating associations between stimuli and emotional states
Sensory Acuity
Sharpness / keenness of a person's senses;
High sensory acuity means perceiving subtle or small changes in an
environment;
High visual acuity can discern fine details in an image or notice slight
variations in colour;
Similarly, high auditory acuity would allow a person to distinguish
between subtle differences in sounds;
Sensory Awareness

This refers to a person's conscious recognition and understanding of

the sensory input they receive;
It's not just about perceiving the sensory stimuli, but also about
being aware of it and processing it cognitively;
Sensory awareness involves paying attention to and understanding
the sensory information around you.
Example - you're aware of the sound of a distant car horn, you're
not only hearing the sound but also recognizing what it signifies.
NLP Techniques
Submodalities: Manipulating sensory components to change
perceptions;
Circle of Excellence: Using an imaginary circle on the floor as a spatial
anchor to install new or additional resources;
Mr. X Technique: Creating an alter image;
Swish Pattern: Replacing undesired behaviours with desired ones;
Alpha Male: Signal others they are confident aligning words & actions;
Meta Model: Identifying and challenging limiting language patterns;
Milton Model: Utilizing vague language for therapeutic purposes;
Anchoring: Marriage of physical and phycological;
