•Self-harm is not a suicide
attempt, although it might look

many people to understand; self-
harm is an unhealthy way to deal
with emotional pain, intense
anger, or frustration. It is a
secretive behavior. It tends to start
around age 14.

sounds.

• Keeping a diary or weblog
• Going to a public place, away from the house
• Getting in touch with a friend
• Watching tv or movie
• Caring for a pet
• Having a relaxing bath
• Listening to soothing music

WAYS YOU CAN HELP

 Listen to them when tell you they need to talk


 Listen to what they are trying to say, not just
the words coming out of their mouths
 Do some of your own research to try and
understand better
 If they just ask you to "just keep talking" do
it, often that's asked when they really want to
self injure and are holding on to the sound of
your voice instead
 Do not judge them just listen
 Respect their wishes
