Who is Lasswell?
Harold Dwight Lasswell (1902–1978), American political
scientist with a specific interest in the symbolic aspects of
politics, is considered one of the founders of mass
communication research in the United States.
What is Lasswell’s Model?
Lasswell's model is one of the earliest and
most influential models of communication.
It was first published by Harold Lasswell in his 1948 book.
“The Structure and Function of Communication in Society.”
Its aim is to organize the "scientific study of the process of communication". It
has been described as "a Linear and Uni-directional process", "a one-way
process" of communication.
Five Basic Questions
Who? What Channel?
01 Who asks about the person
formulating the message.
03 The channel is the way the
message is conveyed from the
sender to the receiver.

Says What? Whom?


02 What is about the content of the
message.
04 Whom refers to the recipient of
the message.

With What Effect?


05 The effect is the outcome of the communication, for
example, that the audience was persuaded to accept the
point of view expressed in the message.
