Calculator technique

• For interpolation in tables 1 to 4

• Mixed steam calculations
• Not to be used in written exams
• Helpful for resolving problems faster, rechecking
solution.
MODE 3: STAT 2: a+bX (LINEAR REGRESSION)
For fx-991 EX, classwiz
1.) MENU
2.) 6: STATISTICS
3.) 2: A+BX
How to use
Example

Given: steam @ 1.50 MPa, tsat=198.32°C

Det: v, u, h, s

Steam is superheated, because 254 °C > tsat

How to use
Example

Steam is superheated, because 254 °C > tsat

Go to Table 3. For superheated vapor

Look for 1.50 MPa.

Find temperature close to 254°C

250°C & 260°C

How to use
Example

Find temperature close to 254°C

250°C & 260°C

MODE,3,2 and input the values on X column

On the Y column, input the property you want to determine

(ex. Specific volume of steam at 1.50 MPa and 254°C)

How to use
Example

On the Y column, input the property you want to determine

(ex. Specific volume of steam at 1.50 MPa and 254°C)

Specific volume for 250 and 260 °C ; 151.95 & 155.59

Press
How to use
Example

Input given temperature of steam: 254

Then, SHIFT, 1

Select 5 for Regression

**FOR CLASSWIZ : OPTN > REGRESSION > ŷ

How to use
Example

Input given temperature of steam: 254

Then, SHIFT, 1

Select 5 for Regression

5 again for y hat (this is what we are solving for, the value of Y when X is 254)

The hit enter

To solve for other properties (u,h,s) replace the Y column and repeat
• This works for any interpolation (subcooled,
superheated or saturated) provided you have two
known points to compare
For mixed steam

Given a wet mixture, tsat at 250°C with specific volume of 0.04159

Determine, y (moisture), h and s.
Get values at table 1: temperature table
Given a wet mixture, tsat at 250°C with specific volume of 0.04159
Determine: y (moisture), h and s.
Get values at table 1: temperature table
Solving for percent moisture:
*Percent moisture = 1 – quality
Or Y = 1 - x
USE, MODE 3 2:

*Usually lagi ko nilalagay sa X column yung quality, kayo bahala pwede naman either way
1st row is for saturated liquid ( 0 quality). 2nd row saturated vapor (100% quality)
For the Y column, input the specific volume
vf = 0.0012512 for sat liquid
vg = 0.05013 for sat vapor

Press AC, so we can solve

Since the specific volume is given to be, 0.04159
we will solve for the X column, which in this case is the quality

Input the given specific volume, then press SHIFT, 1,5,4 for X̂
Then enter to solve.
For the Y column, input the specific volume
vf = 0.0012512 for sat liquid
vg = 0.05013 for sat vapor

Baket X̂ ginamit, hindi ŷ ?

Kase yung gusto mong i solve ay under ng X
column. Sa example na to kase given ka
nung specific volume, tapos gusto mo
isolve yung quality para ma solve yung
moisture
For the Y column, input the specific volume
vf = 0.0012512 for sat liquid
vg = 0.05013 for sat vapor

To solve for moisture:

y = 1 – 0.8253
y = 0.1747 = 17.47 %
You can also solve for specific enthalpy and entropy by using the given specific volume

Since I assigned the X column for specific volume, the Y column will be for enthalpy,
1 row will always be for sat liquid, 2 row will always be for sat vapor

SHIFT 1, 5, 5 to solve for the specific enthalpy
