Suchetha Kriplani
1908- 1 974

 Sucheta Kripalani was an Indian freedom fighter

and politician.
 She was first india’s female chief minister serving
as the head of uttar Pradesh government from
1963 to 1967.
 And she was 4th cm of uttar Pradesh from Kanpur
constituency.

Early life

 She born in ambala, Punjab in a Bengali brahmo family

her father name was surendranath Majumdar, worked
as a medical officer as that job requires many trasfers
as a result she attended no.of schools,
 her final degree in master’s in history from st’stephens
college delhi.
 she was not born with a steely will and excemplary
leadership qualities rather than that she was a shy
child,more over self consious about her appearance
and intelligent.

Freedom movement

 along with her contemporaries aruna asaf ali and usha

mehta she came forefront during quit india movement and
was arrested by the british.
 She later worked closely with mahathma Gandhi during
“position riots”. At that time Gandhi wrote “a person of rare
courage and character who brought credit to Indian
womanhood”.
 She was one of few women elected tp constituent assembly
of india.

 and was part of subcommittee that drafted “Indian

constitution.
 Also she was founder of “all india mahilla congress which
was established in the year 1940.
 For the first lok sabha elections in 1952 she contested from
delhi on a KMPP ticket.she defeated the congress candidate
manmohoni Sahgal.
 Five years later she was re-elected from the same
constituency but this time she was congress candidate.
 She also served as the Minister of State for Small Scale
Industry. In the year 1963, During her long tenure of
work.
 She was elected one last time to the lok-sabha in
1967, fro gonad constituency in up.
 Later she retired from politics in 1971 and remained
in seculision till her death in 1974.
 one of her biggest achievements has been the
effective handling of the 62-day.
