REVIEW SUMMARY:

 Physical Science is a science that deals with matter and energy.

 Matter is anything the has a mass and occupies space (volume).
 Atoms are the basic building blocks of matter.
 MASS measures the amount of matter in an object, WEIGHT measures the
force of gravity acting on an object.
 Volume measures the amount of space that a substance or an object takes up.
The basic SI unit for volume is the cubic centimeter (cm3).
 A given kind of matter has the same chemical makeup and the same chemical
properties regardless of its state. That’s because state of matter is a physical
property. As a result, when matter changes state, it doesn’t become a different
kind of substance.
 The particles in a solid are tightly packed together and in an orderly repetitive pattern thus having a
strong attraction to each which makes it difficult for them to move freely. This gives solids a fixed shape
and a fixed volume.
 The particles in a liquid are loosely packed together and have a weaker attraction to each other than the
particles in a solid, allowing them to move more freely. The particles can slide past one another but not
pull apart completely.
 The particles in a gas are widely spaced apart and have a very weak attraction to each other, allowing
them to move freely and randomly. The particles can pull apart and spread out.
