AL MURTAZA SCHOOL

Senior Branches

CLASS : VIII

Ms Farhat Fatima
Slo#:
1.1.1:Define biology with its major division:
Zoology,Botany,Microbiology.

1.2.1:Define branches of biology i.e.

morphology,anatomy,physiology,histology,parasitology,entomology,
environmental biology, taxonomy, cell biology and pharmacology
with suitable examples.

1.3.1: Relate biology with other branches of

science(physiscs,chemistry,mathematics,geography,economics
using examples from daily life.

1.4.1: Describe bioelements as most basic level of organization.

(16 bioelements)
1.4.2:Describe biomolecules qnd their types i.e. Macromolecules
and Micromolecules.

1.4.3: Differentiate among levels of organization of life.

(organelles,cell,tissue,organ,organ
system,organism,population,community,biosphere).
MORPHOLOGY
SIGNIFICANCE
Ideal weight and height are determined
which helps to compare the features with
an abnormal organism.
It can also help us to know the cause of the
disease.
ANATOMY
SIGNIFICANCE
helps in the field of surgery and postmortem to know
the cause of death.
Removal of stone from the kidney or gallbladder are
also included her
PHYSIOLOGY
SIGNIFICANCE

It helps us to know the nature of disease e.g

doctors check the body temperature, blood
pressure, pulse rate, ideal weight to diagnose
or find out the disease.
TAXONOMY
SIGNIFICANCE
enables us to find out evolutionary
relationship or place newly
discovered organisms into groups.
ENTOMOLOGY

SIGNIFICANCE
Helps in controlling the diseases of silk moth which
supports the silk industry
It also helps to control the agricultural pest and stored
products also in controlling diseases in human where
insect act as a vector. For example, malaria, dengue
fever etc
Study of parasites its host
and their relationship
PARASITOLOGY

SIGNIFICANCE
It is important in the field of health in
which biologist study lifecycle, mode of
transmission of parasite to control
diseases caused by them. Example
malaria(caused by plasmodium)
HISTOLOGY

SIGNIFICANCE
Biopsy of infected is done for treatment
of disease like cancer/tumour.
We are able to do tissue matching or
disease identification.
CELL BIOLOGY
Study of cell and
its organelles
CELL BIOLOGY

SIGNIFICANCE
Important in research for treatment
of cancer because cancer is
abnormal cell growth(cell division).
It deals with study of
organisms and their
environment
ENVIRONMENTAL BIOLOGY

SIGNIFICANCE

It helps scientist to propose appropriate

habitat for the living organisms and find out
ways to reduce different types of pollution
Study of drugs and their
effects on system of human
body.
PHARMACOLOGY
SIGNIFICANCE

Important in improving health conditions.

It helps to understand doses of medicine
acceptable, administration of medicine and
side effects.
Assignment No1:
Q1: Define the term Biology with its three major branches i.e Zoology,
Botany and Microbiology.

Q2: Define and write the significance of sub branches of biology i.e.
morphology,anatomy,physiology,histology,parasitology,entomology,
environmental biology, taxonomy, cell biology and pharmacology.
RELATIONSHIP OF
BIOLOGY WITH
OTHER
SCIENCES
(MS. FARHAT FATIMA)
BIOPHYSICS
Study the principles of
physics which are
applicable to biological
phenonenon.

Example: Working of lever

in physics and limbs in
biology.
BIOCHEMISTRY:

• Chemistry of different
compounds

• Metabolic processes in
living organisms.

• Examples:
a.Photosynthesis
b.respiration
BIOMETHEMATICS/BIOMETRY

Study of biological process using mathematical

techniques and tools.

Data gathering after experimental work

BIOGEOGRAPHY:

Occurrence and distribution of different species in

different geographical regions of the world.
BIOECONOMICS:

Study of organisms
from economical point of
view.

Cost and profit value of

yield of wheat.

Profit and losses can be

determined.
Assignment No 2:
Answer the given question in your copy with the help of your text book page # 4 .

Q3: Relate biology to other branches of science

(physics, chemistry, mathematics, geography and
economics) using suitable examples from daily life .
Also draw figure1.1
LEVEL OF ORGANIZATION OF
LIFE

Slo# 1.4.1-1.4.3
BIO ELEMENTS
Other ten (K,S,Cl,
Mg,,Fe,Cu,Mn,Zn and I)collectively
make 1% of total mass.
TISSUE
Group of similar cells performing similar function.
Example: Epithelial,Nervous etc.
Assignment No 3:

Q1: Define Bio elements. Draw pie chart showing percentage

composition of bio elements in protoplasm of living organism.(Text
book page # 8)

Q2:Define biomolecules with their types i.e Micro molecules and

macromolecules. Also write examples

Q3: Explain the levels of organization of life (organelles, cells,

tissues, organs, organ systems and individuals) with examples
