SPANISH COLONIAL PERIOD

Was first to discover the Philippines during his expedition in


march 17, 1521

Converted some of the filipinos into Catholicism (Datu Sula was


the first to be converted)

Magellan’s expedition didn’t last long due to the Battle Of Mactan and
end up getting executed by lapu lapu

➢ On February 13, 1565 Miguel Lopez de Legazpi ‘s expedition had
arrived on Cebu with a mere 500 men led by him

➢ Its accepted that Miguel Lopez de Legazpi Spanish colonization


started in 1565 during his time

➢ Literature started to grow during his time as well

During the colonization of the spanish people, they have exerted a strong influence on our
literature by replacing the first Filipino alphabet into ROMAN ALPHABET
