Introduction

 Nowadays, the number of customers in wireless

communication is increasing.
 This leads to spectrum scarcity.
 Cognitive Radio is a best solution for the problem of
spectrum scarcity.
 The aim of the CR is to improve spectrum
utilization
 CR allows to share the wireless channels with
licensed users in an opportunistic manner.
 This goal might be achieved using dynamic and
efficient spectrum management techniques.
 In CRN there exists two types of users,
primary and secondary users
 The primary users have high priority so they
should not be interfered by CRUs.
 CRUs, then, must only communicate when
PUs are not using their licensed bands.
 So CRN should efficiently perform,
 Spectrum sensing,
 Spectrum decision,
 Spectrum sharing, spectrum mobility tasks.
Statement of problem
 At present, the number of wireless
communication users and applications are
increasing rapidly.
 With this rapid growth there exists spectrum
scarcity.
 To overcome this spectrum scarcity, dynamic
spectrum access should be there.
 The system that allows dynamic spectrum access
is cognitive radio.
Objectives
General Objective
 The general objective of this project is to develop
matched filter based spectrum sensing in cognitive radio.
Specific Objective
 To study the different spectrum sensing techniques
 To compare the performance of matched filter based
spectrum sensing technique with various thresholds like
 Neyman Pearson observer
 log likelihood ratio
 To decrease detection error or false alarm.
 To write software program and simulate it in MATLAB.
Scope and significant of the Project
Scope of the project
The scope of our project is all about;
Comprehend the utilization of spectrum sensing in cognitive
radio networks,
Investigate the technique of the spectrum sensing.

simulate the signals from the matched filter with matlab detection
to determine the status of the primary users. After getting the
result, try to find the relationship between the factor SNR to and
the final detections and investigate how the SNR influence the
detections. Comparing the theoretical value and the measured
value to determine whether the simulation working successfully.
Significance of the project
Provide improved spectrum detection technique in
cognitive radio network.
Increase SNR in cognitive radio using matched filter
Provide high probability of detection and low
probability of error.
Generally, improve spectrum utilization in radio
networks.
