• In Islamic law, Mahram means a person who you are not allowed to
marry.

Some rulings regarding Marriage
• Muslim can only marry to Muslim or people of the Book.
• Women should marry with the approval of his Wali (Guardian).
(Father, then Brothers, then Paternal Uncles).
• Nikah is the agreement including offer and acceptance between man
and the women in the presence of two witnesses.
• Mehr is the amount promised by the groom to the bride.
Marriage proposal
• A marriage proposal is an event where one sought to seek the hand of
another in marriage.
• If the person accepts the marriage proposal you intend to marry, it
marks the beginning of an Engagement.
• In Islam, the engagement is termed as Khitbah.
Narrated Ibn Umar: The Prophet‫ ﷺ‬decreed that one should not try
to cancel a bargain already agreed upon between some other persons
(by offering a bigger price). And a man should not ask for the hand of a
girl who is already engaged to his Muslim brother, unless the first suitor
gives her up, or allows him to ask for her hand. Sahih Bukhari 5142
Marriage proposal

When someone whose religion and character you are pleased with
proposes to (someone under the care) of one of you, then marry to him.
If you do not do so, then there will be turmoil (Fitnah) in the land and
abounding discord (Fasad). Jam e Tirmizi 1084

A woman may be married for four reasons: for her property, her status.
her beauty and her religion, Choose the one who is religiously-
committed, may your hands be rubbed with dust. Sahih Muslim 1466
