EPILEPTIC LEARNERS
Epilepsy: This is a disorder of the brain characterised by repeated
seizures.
A seizure is usually defined as a sudden alteration of behaviour due to
a temporary change in the electrical functioning of the brain.
An epileptic learner: This is a learner who has a disorder of the brain
characterized by the repeated seizures.
CAUSES OF EPILEPSY
• Genetical mutation
• Genetic inheritance
• Head injuries
• Brain conditions
• Infectious diseases
• Drowning
• Exposure to accidents
• Segregation
• Problems with speaking clearly.
• Hearing loss
• Falling
• Absenteeism from school
REMEDIES/ HOW TO HELP LEARNERS TO FOCUS ON
THEIR STUDIES.
• Frequent repetition of learning material
• Redirection on practical activities
• Memory boosting strategies such as doing recaps
• Extra time for assignments and exams
• Non timed assignments to measure performance
• Break down tasks into simpler and easily understandable tasks
• Provide several brief tests instead of the long ones
• Counselling and guidance
• Avoiding triggers such as flashing bright lights.
• Stress management.
• Diet management( fatty foods and carbohydrates)
• Safety precaution in case of an attack. For example avoid movements of water shores and high ways
SICKLE CELLS
• Sickle cell disease is a genetic disorder that affects the shape and function of red blood
cells.
CAUSES OF SICKLE CELLS
• Genetic inheritance
• Haemoglobin mutation
Other cause may include;
• Sickle shaped red blood cells
• Sickle cell symptoms
• Population Genetics
SYMPTOMS OF SICKLE CELL
• Breathing problem
• High body temperatures
• painful constant erection in men
• Organ damage
• Prone to infections
• Stunted growth

ON THEIR STUDIES
• Sufficient hydration.
• Guiding and counselling
• Moderate physical exercises
• Give learners extra attention
• Keep close communication with the parents and medical personnel of the
learner

• Viral inspections
• Occupation hazards such as breathing in chemicals
• Allergies
• Obesity
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
• Chest tightness
• Shortness of breath
• Coughing
• Wheezing( breathing with whistling sound)
• Trouble sleeping
