 INTRODUCTION
Burn injuries are an under-appreciated trauma that can affect
anyone, anytime and anywhere. The injuries can be caused by
friction, heat, radiation, chemical or electric sources, but the
majority of burn injuries are caused by heat from hot liquids,
solids or fire.
 PREVALENCE
 Every year, more than 180,000 people die due to
burn wounds in low to middle income countries.
 75% of deaths in patients with burns are due to
infection.

 SILVER SULFADIAZINE
 Silver Sulfadiazine, combining Sulfadiazine with Silver, is widely
employed as an antibacterial agent(Gold Standard Therapy) for
burn management.

The antimicrobial activity develops by the degradation of Silver

Sulfadiazine molecules into Sulfadiazine and Silver ions.

The Silver ions: interrupts the triphosphate synthesis in bacteria,

Sulfadiazine: inhibits the synthesis of folic acid in bacteria.
NEED FOR ALTERNATIVE DRUG
DELIVERY SYSTEM
 Creams have tendency to form pseudo eschar,
which is difficult to distinguish from burn–eschar
and these may also impede the penetration of
Silver Sulfadiazine into the burn wound
