History
History
Baseball's origins are thought to stem from ancient
bat-and-ball games in England, with the modern
version emerging in the U.S. during the mid-19th
century. The "Doubleday myth" credits Abner
Doubleday with inventing baseball in 1839, but
evidence suggests a gradual development. The
Knickerbocker Base Ball Club's rules in 1845 and the
sport's spread led to professional leagues forming.
