Sexual Self

How can your sex

affect your
personality?
Primary Sexual Characteristics

 Characteristics that
directly involve
reproduction, such as
sex organs.
Primary Sexual Characteristics
(Male- XY)
The male gonads (testes) , which are located in the
scrotum (sac), outside the body, are only approximately
10% of their mature size at the age of fourteen. It will
be fully developed by the age of 20-21.
The penis accelerates in growth after the rapid growth
of testes begins.
Wet dreams
Female Primary Sexual Characteristics (XX)

The menarche is the first real sign of sexual

maturation every 28 days until the
menopause, in the late forties or early fifties.
The uterus weighs about 5.3 grams with the
average 11 or 12-year-old girls, by the age of
16, the average weight is about 43 grams.
What are other important Secondary
Sex Characteristics of the Human
Body?
Secondary Sexual Characteristics

 These are characteristics that emerge at puberty.

These are not used in sexual reproduction, but are
important for attracting a mate or being able to
provide care for offspring- such as human breast.
 These features distinguishes males from females
 It makes an individual sexually appealing
Erogenous Zones of the Human Body(XX)
 Clitoris
 Contributes most to sexual arousal. Research shows that stimulating the clitoris is
the fastest and easiest way for women to achieve orgasm through pressure or
vibration..
 Vagina
 Where the “G-Spot” is located. The interior of the vagina contain nerve endings,
and women report that deep stimulation leads to intense orgasms. The outer edge of
the vagina, on the other hand, tends to respond to light touch.
 Cervix
 Located at the lower end of the uterus, has it’s own feel-good nerve pathways. Some
research suggests that the vagina, clitoris, and cervix all respond separately and
distinctly to sexual stimuli.
Erogenous Zones of the Human Body
 Mouth and Lips
 Some suggest that many women rank the lips and
mouth highly as erogenous zone.
 Neck
 According to international survey, both nape and back
of the neck are among the top 10 erogenous zones.
 Breast and Nipples
 Ears
Erogenous Zones of the Human Body
 Penis
Penis stimulation contributes to sexual satisfaction.
Circumcision doesn’t appear to decrease sensation or
sexual satisfaction
 Mouth and Lips
Kissing triggers a release of hormones involved in
intimacy- oxytocin/”love hormone”
 Scrotum
One of men’s most notable erogenous zone. Lots of nerves
mean that this area is super-sensitive to touch.
Erogenous Zones of the Human Body
 Neck
The neck has great sensitivity to lo-frequency vibration,
making it prime spot for light erotic touch.
 Nipples
Male don’t appear to serve any real purpose, that doesn’t
really mean they’re totally useless.
 Perineum
Area between anus and scrotum
 Ear
The Brain: Role and Function in the
Human Sexual Response
The brain is translating nerve impulses from
the skin into pleasurable sensations.
It controls nerves and muscles used during
sexual activity.
It regulates the release of hormones where the
brain weighs 1,300 and 1,400 grams
Brain Stem
The evolutionary oldest
structure; controls primitive
responses associated with
behavior and facial expressions;
contains circuit for many
emotions, including
love/attachment, joy, and sexual
excitement.
Hypothalamus

Regulates the production of

hormones in response to both
internal and environment
events; controls pituitary
gland, which is the master
gland that controls all the other
endocrine glands in the body.
The Limbic System

Amygdala
Helps generates
associations between
experiences
The Limbic System

Hippocampus
Located near the
amygdala, it plays an
important role in
organizing and storing
memories for events.
The Cerebral Cortex
Also as neocortex.
It is the outermost layer of the brain; its function is responsible
for thinking and processing information from the five senses:
It is made up of tightly packed neurons and is the wrinkly,
outermost layer that surrounds the brain.
Responsible for higher thought processes including speech and
decision making.
The Cerebral Cortex
Divided into four:
Frontal
lobe: cognitive functions and control of voluntary
movement/activity
Parietallobe: processes information about temperature, taste,
touch, and movement
Temporal lobe: processes memories, integrating them with
sensation of taste, sound, sight, and touch
Occipital lobe: responsible for vision
