Trigonometry

BY: MARIA
Basic trigonometry
Trigonometry is about working out sides and angles of right-angle triangles.
To work out the long side of a right angle triangle you need to…
. Square it
2
. Square it You have to do 8 which is 64
x Then you have to do 5 square which is 25
. Add it 8cm you have to add 64 and 25 together which is 89
. Square root it Finally you have to square root 89 which is 9.43

5cm x=9.43
To work out the short side you need to…..
Short side

. Square it
. Square it
. Subtract it 3.1cm 2.4cm
. Square root it
X
You have to do 3.1 square which is 9.61
Then 2.4 square which is 5.76
You have to subtract 9.61 and 5.76 which is 3.85
Finally you square root 3.85 which is 1.96 and you round it so X=2.0CM
Angles
Before you work out the angles you need to know about sin cos and tan
O=opposite
H=hypotenuse
A=adjacent A=adjacent

the opposite is the side opposite the angle

the hypotenuse is the longest side of the triangle
the adjacent is the side left over
Working out angles
1) Label the sides of the shape
2) Cross out the side with no length given
3) Choose the correct formula triangle
4) Use it

8cm=O
5cm=A
The side with no length given is H but you don’t need it
Now you are left with O and A so you choose the formula
triangle which is tan

T=O divided by A
