What is Hormone?
What is Hormone?
hor·mone/ˈhôrˌmōn/noun

-a regulatory substance produced in an organism and

transported in tissue fluids such as blood or sap to stimulate
specific cells or tissues into action.

-Oxford Languages
What are Plant Hormones?
Plant hormones are signal molecules, produced within
plants, that occur in extremely low concentrations. It controls all
aspects of;

■ Plant growth and development;

■ Embryogenesis ;
■ Regulation of organ size;
■ Pathogen defense; and
■ Stress tolerance
Plants also have an Adaptive Mechanism for them to
survive.
Does plants have an Immune System?
Zig-zag Model

- represents the plant immune system in which the

microbial-associated molecular patterns (MAMP) by the pattern
recognition of host-cell results to MAMP-triggered immunity.
(Rajendra and Jones, 2009)
Zig-zag Model
Plant hormones also play an important role in plant
defense against pathogenic microorganisms. Not only do
these plant hormones perform such function, but they
also regulate the development and signal networks in
plants.
Plant Hormones and Their Growth
and Defense Function
(Barl et al., 2009)
Abscisic Acid (ABA)
- is a plant hormones that
regulate numerous aspects
of plants growth,
development and stress
responses.
Auxin
- promote cell growth and and
elongation of the plant.auxins
alters the plant wall plasticity
making it easier for the plant to
grow upward.
Brassinosteroids (BR)
- are a group of steriod
hormones essentially
important for plant
development and growth.
Cytokinin (CK)
- are essential plant hormones
by stimulating cell
devision,they can stimulate both
the diffetiation and the out
growth of axillary buds.
Ethylene (ET)
- it helps to ripen fruit.
- it is involved in the process of
abscission, the dropping of
leaves and flowers.
Gibberellins (GA)
- are hormones that cause the
plant to grow.
- stem elongation.
Jasmonic Acid (JA)
- regulates plant adaptations to
biotic stresses.
- primary root growth.
- reproductive development.
- leaf senescence.
Salicylic Acid (SA)
- it play a role in the resistance of
pathogen.
