CONSIDERATION IN

FORMULATING RESEARCH
PROBLEM
SOURCES IN RESEARCH PROBLEM:

 Schools
 Houses
 Restaurant
 Clinics
CONSIDERATIONS IN FORMULATING RESEARCH
PROBLEMS:

A. External Criteria
1. Novelty – topic must not have been
used by many researchers.
2. Availability of Subjects – think of study
participants who are within your research.
A. External Criteria
3. Administrative Support – assistance that
can be solicited from the school or extended
by the community.
4. Availability and adequacy of facilities and
equipment – devices such as computers,
telephones,
WIFI, etc.
A. External Criteria
5. Ethical considerations – are acceptable and
are done in accordance with what is legal and
morally right.
5 EXTERNAL CRITERIA

 NOVELTY
 AVAILABILTITY OF SUBJECTS
 ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
 AVAILABILITY AND ADEQUACY OF FACILITIES
AND EQUIPMENT
 ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
5 INTERNAL CRITERIA
 EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL
QUALIFICATIONS
 MOTIVATIONS, INTEREST, INTELECTUAL
CURIOSITY, AND PERCEPTIVENESS OF THE
RESEARCHER
 TIME FACTOR
 COSTS AND RETURNS
 HAZARDS, PENALTIES, AND HANDICAPS
CONSIDERATIONS IN FORMULATING RESEARCH
PROBLEM IN QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH 2:

1. RELEVANCE:
The research problem should address a
current issue that is relevant to the field.
2. CLARIFYING ASSUMPTIONS:
Any underlying assumptions made in the
research problem should be clearly stated.
3. MEASURABILITY:
The research problem should be measurable, meaning
that it can be quantified
or otherwise evaluated with objective metrics.
4. OPERATIONALIZATION:
The variables and concepts used to
examine the problem can be defined and measured.
5. FEASIBILITY:
It is possible within the resources available to
conduct the research.
