HISTO
RY
• England (19 Century)- table tennis made its first appearance
as it takes its inspiration from lawn tennis.
• James Gibb(1901)-Following a trip to the United States, he brought back the first
celluloid ball, which was a lot lighter than the rubber balls.
• E. C Gould(1902)- a British enthusiast of the game, introduced the first bats covered in
rubber and rubberized pimples.
• Queen's Halls in London(1902)- the first official World Championship of table tennis
takes place.
• Budapest(1929) - The French would participate in the game for the first time.
• Seoul (1988) - The first gold medals were awarded to the female
Chinese player Chen Jing and the male Korean player Yoo Nam-kyu.
Each table side alternates serving two points at a time. EXCEPTION: When
the score is tied 10-10 ("deuce"), service alternates at each point.
RULE #3
Hold the ball in your open palm behind your table end. Toss at least 6"
straight up and strike it on the way down. It must hit your side of the table
and then the other side. NOTE: Once the ball leaves the server's hand, it is
in play and so counts as the receiver's point if the ball is missed or mis-hit.
RULE #4
There are no rules about where the ball can land on your or your opponent's
side of the table. It can bounce twice or more on your opponent's side
(which is your point), bounce over the side, or even hit the edge.
RULE #5
The serve must bounce in both the server's and the receiver's right court
(NOTE: landing on the center line is fair). After their team has served twice,
doubles partners switch places.
RULE #6
In table tennis, can the ball hit the net? Yes, if it touches the top of the net
and then lands as a legitimate hit during a match. However, not when
serving. If a served ball hits the net on its way over but otherwise legally
bounces in play, it is considered a "let" serve and must be redone. There is
no limit to the number of times this can occur.
RULE #7
In regular tennis, the ball can be "volleyed" (hit the ball before it bounces
on your side of the net). However, this results in a point for your opponent
in table tennis. NOTE: When your opponent hits a ball that sails over your
end of the table without touching it and then hits you or your paddle, that is
still your point.
RULE #9
If you hit the ball during a match or serve and it bounces back over the net
after hitting your opponent's side of the table (due to extreme spin), that is
your point.
RULE #10
There is no rule violation if the ball touches your paddle hand and results in
a legal hit; play will continue as usual. All fingers and the hand area below
the wrist are included in your paddle hand. But what if the ball comes into
contact with a player's body somewhere else during a tennis match? For any
reason, you may not touch the ball with your non-paddle hand. It will earn
your opponent one point. Your point is still valid if your opponent's hit sails
over your side of the table without touching it and hits any part of you or
your paddle.
RULE #11
You may make contact with the ball or the table with your paddle hand (for
example, after reaching in to return a short serve) or with other parts of your
body. NOTE: If the table moves at all as a result of your touch during a
match, it is your opponent's point.
RULE #12
1.In playing table tennis, the ball must be thrown high enough for
at least 16 cm.
2.In a double match, any of the partner can hit the ball.
3.Table tennis is utilized as a treatment for dementia.
4.An intense game of table tennis stimulates mental alertness,
concentration, and develop mental acuity.
5.If you hit the ball during a match or serve and it bounces back
over the net after hitting your opponent’s side of the table (due
to a extreme spin), that is not your point
.
