INTRODUCTION OF MANIPUR

• Manipur, state of India, located in the northeastern part of the country. It is


bordered by the Indian states of Nagaland to the north, Assam to the west, and
Mizoram to the southwest and by Myanmar (Burma) to the south and east. Like
other northeastern states, it is largely isolated from the rest of India.

inter-woven through the celestial and eternal love of Radha and Krishna as has
been described in the Hindu scriptures.

Manipur is one of India's largest bamboo producing states and a major contributor to
the country's bamboo industry. Manipur accounts for about 25% of the total growing
stock of bamboo of the North Eastern Region of India and 14% of the country.
Manipur is situated in the eastern-most corner of northeast India. ... Handlooms is
the largest cottage industry in Manipur and the state ranks among the top five in
terms of the number of looms in the country. Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP)
for Manipur increased to Rs. 278.69 billion (US$ 4.05 billion) in 2018-19 The
geographical area of Manipur is 23327 km. The 70 percent area is forest Major forest cover is
wood , timber , firewood and bamboo. So the major industries are on this base only. Manipur
is primarily an agriculture based economy and has scope for commercial plantation of a
variety of horticulture crops such as figs olive and mandarin .. It is largest producer of passion
fruits among the Indian states. Handloom ,handicraft and sericulture are most developed
industries in the state and significantly contribute to the state income.

TOURISM IN MANIPUR
The word Manipur literally means a 'jeweled town', a name that rightly justifies the small and picturesque land. The
people here are very polite and hospitable. Rich in its culture, tradition, and ethnicity, Manipur is one of the seven
northeastern states of India. The Raasleelas and the classical dance of Manipur hold a very significant position in the
cultural map of India. With sites like the Loktak Lake and the Khonghampat Orchidarium, Manipur is also famous for
its natural beauty.
FLORA AND FAUNA OF MANIPUR

• Blessed with an amazing variety of flora and fauna, 67% of the geographical area of Manipur
is hill tract covered forests. Depending on the altitude of hill ranges, the climatic condition
varies from tropical to sub-alpine. The wet forests and the pine forests occur between 900-
2700 m above MSL and they together sustain a host of rare and endemic plant and animal life.
Coveted the world over as some of the most beautiful and precious blooms, orchids have an
aura of exotic, mysteries about them.
• In Manipur, they are abound in their natural habitat growing in soil or on trees and shrubs
speaking their beauty and colour, stunning the eye that is not used to seeing them. in such
profusion. There are 500 varieties of orchids which grow in Manipur of which 472 have been
identified
HANDICRAFT INDUSTRIES IN MANIPUR

• The crafts of Manipur showcase the creativity of its people. Manipur produces a wide
range of handicrafts and handloom items. Papier mache, decorative ivory, collectible
dolls, bamboo and cane work are some of the many crafts of this state. In fact, the state is
counted as one of the largest producer of bamboo crafts in India. Wood Carving, textile
weaving, stone carving, block printing and hand-embroidery are other handicrafts of
Manipur.
