WHAT IS AUTOCADD?
AutoCADD - is a computer-aided design (CAD)
program used for 2-D and 3-D design and
drafting. AutoCAD was developed and marketed
by Autodesk Inc. and was one of the initial CAD
programs that could be executed on personal
computers.
DWG (drawing) is the native file format for AutoCAD
and a basic standard for CAD data
interoperability. The software has also provided
support for Design Web Format (DWF), a format
developed by Autodesk for publishing CAD data.

AutoCAD User Interface
1. Title Bar - This will show you what program
you are running and what the current
filename is.
2. Menu Bar - is the horizontal strip across the
top of an application’s window. Each word
on the strip has a context sensitive drop-
down menu containing features and actions
that are available for the application in use.
3. Toolbars/Ribbons - provide a single,
compact placement for operations/tools
that are relevant to the current workspace.
By default (in its original setting), it contains
the Standard, Layers, Properties and Styles
toolbars.
4.Crosshair -is a CAD cursor consisting of two
lines that intersect and are used to locate
points and selects objects in your drawing.
5.Drawing space - The AutoCAD drawing
area. This is where you draw.
6. Palette - Collection of tools in one area
that can be organized into common
categories.
7. Command line - is where you enter the
commands from the keyboard and where
the prompts are displayed. It has a text area
where all the previous commands are
displayed.
8. Status bar - This allows to see and change
different modes of drawing such as Ortho,
Osnaps, Grid, Polar, etc.
9. UCS. It is found at the bottom left hand
corner of the AutoCAD drawing window.
You will see a symbol like the one shown
on the left. This is called the UCS (User
Coordinate System)
icon and it is there to
remind you which is
the X axis and which is
the Y axis.
