MEANING OF EDUCATION

Education :
Life long Process .It is never ending….
Education can make a real human being…How
Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge,
skills, values, beliefs, and habits.
It makes an individual civilized, refined, cultured and
educated. For a civilized and socialized society, education is the only means. Its
goal is to make an individual perfect. Every society gives importance to education
because It is the key to solve the various problems of life.

Meaning of Education

The word "Education" has been derived from the Latin term "Educatum“ which means the act of
teaching and training
• Second view says it comes from another Latin word "Educare“ which means "To bring up or rise "
• According to a few others, the word“ Education" has originated from another Latin word
Educere" which means "to lead forth“ or "to come out“
All these meanings indicate that education seeks to nourish the good
qualities in man and draw out the best in every individual. Education seeks to develop the innate
inner capacities of man.
Concept Of Education
• According to Narrow concept of Education : confined to school learning or Universities
• According to Broader Concept of Education: It means totality of experiences

Definitions of Education
• Aristotle – “Education is the creation of a sound mind in a sound body.”
• Pestalozzi – “Education is natural, harmonious and progressive
development of man’s innate powers.”
• Froebel -“Education is enfoldment of what is already enfolded in the
germ.”
• Mahatma Gandhi – “By education I mean an all-round drawing out of
the best in man – body, mind and spirit.”
• John Dewey – “Education is the process of living through a continuous
reconstruction of experiences.”
