TEMPERATE CLIMATE
*The temperate climate has mild warm summers
and cool winters
*The word temperate means moderate, or in the
middle. This is helpful in understanding the
climate in the temperate zone-it does not have
extremes
*It is a relatively comfortable climate, especially
near the coast, where summers are cooler and
winter are warmer than further inland
*Pune and Bangalore are cities that fall under this
climatic zone
DETAIL CLIMATE
OF THE ZONE
• The solar radiation in this region is more or less the same throughout
the year.

• Being located at relatively higher elevations, these places experience


lower temperatures than hot and dry 30-34°C during the day and 17-
24°C at night.
• The relative humidity is low in winters and summers, varying from 20-
55% : and going up to 55-90% during monsoons.

• The total rainfall usually exceeds |000mm per year.


• Winter are dry in this zone.

• Winds are generally high during summer. Their speed and direction
depend mainly upon the topography.
• The sky is mostly clear with occasional presence of low, dense clouds i
summers.

WADA ARCHITECTURE
Two types of Wadas:
*One which houses many families, like an
apartment building of recent times or
chawl of Mumbai.(Mosdy for the middle
classfamilies)
*One in which only one family resided.
(Mosdy owned by the richer class like
relatives of the peshwas and traders)
This type of Architecture style dealt perfect
with Air and Light, resulting to great
ventilation of both. And it also fulfill ,
security/privacy concern, due to the
exterior of structure. All the courtyard
houses/plans in today’s time, have been
somewhat influenced by the Maratha
Reign Architecture.

VERNACULAR
ARCHITECTURE OF
BANGALORE

• The Gutthu Houses of the land owning


community of south Karnataka are large,
inward looking Hindu Mansions.
• The typical Gutthu house has a steeply
pitched roof, combining single & double
storied blocks around a courtyard.
• It is the isolated home of a well-to-do
family designed to deter attacks.
• The facade is usually symmetrical around
a central projection, the tallest and most
impressive feature of the house.
