The Origin of Lompat Batu

Lompat Batu first appeared because of the many wars and
conflict among the tribes in Nias. Back then, each villages had
its own fortresses. In order to win the war, every soldier had to
be able to jump over the fortresses. So they decided to make this
Lompat Batu tradition, so they can prepare if any war happens
again.

Why are we doing this?

We are doing this to raise awareness that Indonesia has
a lot of traditions. We choose lompat batu because we
think that it is amazing how young teens jump over a 2
meter rock and we want to share it to people.

What’s lompat batu.?

Lompat batu also known as Fahombo is a tradition of the teens of Nias
will jump over a large stone where that will prove they are ready for
adulthood physically.

How does lompat batu performed?

The boys in Nias start practicing jumping at the age of 7. They will practice with a rope to use
for a substituted so they can use it as the height of the real stone. And at the end they will jump
of real rocks, which is 2 meter long. If u pass it means u are a mature man and become a
defender of the village.

Lompat batu is one of the most popular tradition from Nias,
Sumatera Utara in Indonesia. They trust Lompat batu because
when a boy can jump into the rock that means they are ready to
fight and they are men and they are mature enough but if they
fail they can’t go war and they are not a man yet.
