Atmosphere and

Ocean interaction
Presented By: Group 5
What Is Atmosphere and Ocean Interaction
• The ocean and the atmosphere form a complex coupled system, exchanging
gases, water (and water vapour), particles, momentum, and energy at the air-
sea interface.
• These exchanges affect the biological, chemical, and physical processes of the
ocean and influence the water cycle, weather, and climate.
• The ocean affects Earth’s climate through the long-term consequences of
these exchanges. For example, the ocean is a gigantic reservoir for CO2, which
plays a critical role in shaping climate change.

What causes the equator to be warmer than the
poles?

The rays of the sun

strike the Earth
directly at the
equator. At the
poles the curvature
of the Earth spreads
the rays out.

In relation to the direct sunlight at the equator and the indirect sunlight energy at the poles because of the curve of the planet. The more direct
the exposure and longer period of exposure allows for heating of the area. Since the equator receives the most direct exposure, it is warmest
