Grade 8 Week 2.1 Factoring Sum and Difference of Two Cubes
1. (x + 2) 2 = ____ + 4𝑥 + 4
2. (2x − 3) 2 = 4𝑥 2 − _____ + 9
3. (3x + 4) 2 = 9𝑥 2 + 24𝑥 + _____
4. (x − y) 2 = ____ − 2𝑥𝑦 + 𝑦 2
5. (2x + 3y) 2 = 4𝑥 2 + _____ + 9𝑦 2
Directions: Determine whether the given expressions are perfect
squarez trinomials. Write P if it is a perfect square trinomial and N if
not. Write your answer on your answer sheet.
1. a − 22a + 121
2
2. b 2 − 8b + 16
3. 4d2 + 20d − 25
4. 100 + 50e + e 2
5. 36r2 − 60rt + 25t2
Perfectz Square Trinomial is the result of squaring a binomial. A
perfect square trinomial has first and last terms which are perfect
squares and the middle term is twice the product of the first and last
terms.
That is,
(a + b) 2 = a 2 + 2ab + b 2
or (a − b) 2 = a 2 − 2ab + b 2
