PHOSPHORIC ACID PLANT
 The basic reaction of P2O5 with H2SO4 is done in this plant.

 The phosphate rock is imported from Senegal containing 35 % of P 2O5 and other

from Udaipur containing 28 % of P2O5. Both these rocks were mixed in 1:3 ratio of
Senegal to Udaipur respectively.

GRINDING SECTION
1. Ball mill is used for grinding the rock from 2 mm to 200 mesh size.

2. Ball mill has continuous operation which is connected which vacuum system.

3. Ball mill is connected to cyclone separator in which separates required product

size from bottom and other sizes from top.

4. Ball mill rotates about 17 rpm speed.

DIGESTION SECTION
 The digester is heart and critical part of this plant and it is one type of reactor having four
agitator and half partition.
 The reaction of phosphate rock is done with sulphuric acid.
 The phosphate rock from Hopper scale inserted to screw conveyor which transports the rock
to digester.
 There are four agitators in digester, all of them agitates along its radius and also along the
radius of digester.
 All agitators are paddle type impellers as highly viscous slurry is involved in this section.
FILTRATION SECTION
 The slurry containing gypsum and phosphoric acid is separated using filtration.
 Horizontal belt filter is used for this operation.
 The filter is at 10.33-meter height become is counter back 1 atm pressure exerted on slurry.
 It consists of driving belt which drives the filter cloth along with cake formed.
 Driving belt has groves and small holes at centre from where filtrate is collected to metal
vacuum box attached at bottom of driving belt which is stationary.
 Belt rotates about 6 to 8 MPR (Minute Per Rotation).
CONCENTRATION UNIT AND
STORAGE
 The phosphoric acid obtained after filtration has concentration of 22% to 23% which is to be
increased according to requirement in APS Plant, for Sikka unit and of sell grade.
 The concentration is increased using Evaporation, calandria evaporator long-tube type single
effect is used in this unit.
 Phosphoric acid obtained from filtration is stored in filtrate holding tank through which the
filtrate is overflowed and stored to another tank as gypsum particles are coming with filtrate
which leads to scaling of tubes in evaporator.
 From bottom, phosphoric acid is flowed in tubes and steam from top in shell.
 There are six storage tanks of 500 m3 for storage of different grades of phosphoric acid.
