Care for Microscope
Because the microscope is an expensive
equipment, you should always exercise
care in storing, handling and using it.
Here are a few ways of caring for the
microscope:
Care for Microscope
•Transport and carry the microscope
using both your hands. Hold the arm
of the microscope with one hand, and
support the base with your other
hand.
Care for Microscope
•Place the microscope on a flat and
stable surface. Make sure that the
microscope is at least six inches away
from the table’s edge.
Care for Microscope
•If you are using an electric-powered
microscope, plug your microscope
before you power it on. Doing the
reverse can cause blowouts.
Care for Microscope
•Follow the instructions in preparing
your slides. If you are making a wet
mount, do not tilt the microscope.
Always use a coverslip or cover glass.
Do not let the lens touch the specimen.
Care for Microscope
•Clean the lenses of the microscope using
special lens paper. Do not touch any of
the glass pieces of the microscope.
Care for Microscope
•When you’re finished using the
microscope, switch it to the low-power
objective and then lower the stage. If
your microscope is electricity powered,
switch it of first before you unplug it.
Care for Microscope
•Store the microscope in a clean and
dry place. Cover it, or place it inside
a sturdy box or container.
