PART I:
IMPORTANT
POINTS IN
WORK IMMERSION
INTRODUCTION

DepEd’ s Student Immersion Program, as a key feature of the Senior

High School Curriculum, is a work related professional learning
opportunities that will allow students to gain important knowledge, skills
and attitude in the chosen field. Since 2017, the Work Immersion
Program for senior high school students has been implemented by the
Filipino Government’s Department of Education (DepEd) and supported
by The Asia Foundation’s Coalitions for Change.

The Program is offered as a pre-requisite to graduation to Grade 11

and 12 students, aged 15–18, of DepEd public schools, private schools,
state colleges and universities, and technical-vocational institutions. Due
to the lack of knowledge, skills, and work experience that puts students
at a disadvantage, as part of the programme, DepEd has made it a
requirement for them to attain hands-on experience through work
simulation of their chosen track.

This is to give them greater opportunity to develop themselves in

the workplace in a supervised setting and to apply their knowledge and
capabilities. Through work immersion, students can build a strong
foundation for their future careers. They can learn how to interact with
professionals in a professional setting. They will also gain an
understanding of the industry, which can help them make informed
decisions when applying for jobs

OBJECTIVE OF THE
WORK IMMERSION
1. Gain relevant and practical industrial skills
under the guidance of industry experts and
workers;
Throughout the days of immersion, I came across lots
of events which helped me discover a lot of things. I noticed
that my communication skills improve. For someone that
has a low self-esteem and social anxiety, it is so difficult to
communicate with people who you just met for the first
time. But one of the factors that you need to consider in
doing a business is having a good communication with your
customer. It will help you to build a strong relationship with
your customer that can reflect a positive impact to the
business. Customer think that your business is worth the
price because you have the ability to speak and emphasize
the benefits they will get from purchasing your product.

Aside from that, those customers would give their

feedback or what are their insight about the product and
service you offer. Getting feedback to others is one of the
ways to make the business better. We have a lot of
customer who is a teacher that is expert in the filled of
business so accepting feedback even if its negative will help
us more to enhance our product and services. Since it was
our first time doing that kind of activity, our knowledge and
skills was not enough to build a strong business with a good
product and services so whenever they share their
experiences and knowledge to us, they gave us an idea of
what is the right thing to do to innovate the business.

SCHOOL
OBJECTIVE OF THE
WORK IMMERSION
2. Appreciate the importance of application of
the principles and theories taught in the
classroom;
Before the immersion started, our teachers conducted a
discussion regarding to the said activity. They not just tackle
the immersion itself and the importance of it, the also
discussed the factors you need to consider while doing the
activity. Those lesson that we had was applied that helped us
to make our works easier and better. It enhance the potential
of creating a successful business. Those principles guide us to
have a better decision making that had led to further growth
of our business.

3. Enhance their technical knowledge and skills;

Technical knowledge and skills are important for a business for a lot
of reasons. It has a lot of processes that we can rely on while
performing our different tasks or works. Technical skills and knowledge
are needed to perform a task successfully. With our enhanced
knowledge and skills it can lead to an easier work that can boost
productivity. As a result since we have different technical skills and
knowledge, our business has more competitive advantages than the
others. This also means that we have better decision making and
objectives or goals for our business. Since everyone is working on the
same page, our business can accomplish its goals faster.

OBJECTIVE OF THE
WORK IMMERSION
4. Prepare them to meet the needs and challenges
of employment, entrepreneurship, or higher
education after their graduation;
With hard work and resilience, and hopefully some fun along
the way, the day will arrive when your study is complete and
your final exams and assignments have been marked. Now the
celebrations can begin. You will likely receive an invitation to
attend your graduation ceremony. By the time you graduate
you may already have a firm idea of the next direction you
would like to take. Some will continue their studies to gain
more knowledge about the field they want to engage in the
future. Many graduates hope to transition quickly from study
into a paid job in their field. But there is a huge chance that You
may be competing against other applicants who have a degree
and work experience on their resume. Other than that, being
entrepreneurial is an alternative to job seeking. Self-
employment allows you to tailor-make a job that uses your
specific skills. But running your own business can be exciting
but it is not necessarily an easy pathway. Business owners often
talk about their long work hours, the difficulty of taking unpaid
holidays, considerable amounts of administrative tasks and
financial stress.

VALUES AND ATTRIBUTES
OF A STUDENT IN
A WORK IMMERSION
Work Immersion program has been a requirement for Senior High School
students before they could graduate. Performing this kind of activity can make
you encounter events that can gain you more knowledge about the said activity.
Values are a person's principle or standard of behavior. While doing the
immersion, you have an opportunity to comprehend those values and attributes
as a key feature that you can use in your future career. There are values and
attributes that can helped them to faced different struggles during the
immersion.
The first one is kindness. Kindness enhances engagement of both
employees and customers. Research also indicates that loyalty increases when
employees have opportunities to demonstrate kindness in the workplace.
Kindness fosters relationships and builds trust, thus creating a positive impact
on productivity, customer satisfaction and loyalty. Also, kindness matter in
customer conversations because it’s an affordable, effective way to keep
customers happy. By setting the tone with kindness, you’ll encourage future
conversations and open the door to potential business opportunities.
Moreover, authenticity is highly valued in the workplace, as it helps build
trust, effective communication, and teamwork. Authenticity means being true to
oneself, even in a professional setting, and being honest about one’s skills,
knowledge, and experiences. People who can be genuine in the workplace are
more likely to feel fulfilled. As a result, they’re more satisfied on the job and
self-confident about their abilities. Other than that, authenticity plays a huge
role in helping consumers trust one’s business. When consumers feel confident
that you know what you’re doing and that you are who you say you are, they’re
more willing to spend time and money with what you have to offer.
Additionally, being responsible is a crucial part while doing a business.
Being responsible helps the business outcomes and successes. Responsible
workers are more engaged and hold themselves accountable to produce results.
This can also create a positive, helpful atmosphere and boost morale. Taking on
responsibilities is a great way to accelerate your professional development and
learn new skills.

DAILY
JOURNAL
2023
DAY 1 - MAY 8,

Our 10-day work immersion started on Monday, May 8, 2023. We are

supposed to have no classes every Mondays, but our teachers have informed
us that we can’t do anything about it. As we began our immersion, we
completed the business plan. If the ABM students does not have a business
plan to submit or present, they are not permitted to sell goods on school
grounds. We divided the business plan into sections and assigned each
member a task. We started working on it on Saturday and finished it on
Monday, the first day of immersion, so we didn’t have anything else to think
about before starting the immersion.

DAY 2- MAY 9,

The second day of immersion shock the entire out of me. It’s our first
time doing that kind of activity. The knowledge and skills that we have were
not enough to perform such a work like that. At first, I thought it was easy but
I realize, you really can’t understand something if you haven’t experience that
exact scenario. I realized, doing that kind of work is not that simple as you
think. We never thought that cooking consumes a lot of time. I felt the tension
every time the customer follow-up their orders. I learned that you should have
more knowledge, skills and experiences in order to do the task better.

DAY 3- MAY 10,
2023

On the third day of working immersion, our booth moved to a

better location. I must say it was better because, in our previous
place, students didn't pass by much. Moving to a better place gave
us more customers. I've gotten used to cooking quickly and don't
feel the tension, even though there are many customers that need
to be taken care of.

DAY 4- MAY 11,
2023

Thursday, the fourth day of immersion, was stressful. There were a lot of
customers who needed to be entertained, possibly because the news has spread
throughout the school that there are booths that sell food and beverages. They are
enticed to purchase our product simply because it is different than what is often
sold in the school canteen. It was also my first time promoting our product outside
the booth. I’ve been cooking only inside the booth for the past few days; interacting
with other customers to offer them our product is not my forte. At first, I was
hesitant to join my group mates who are in charge of promoting our product,
thinking that I would only be a burden to them. But I eventually realized that I also
needed to step out of my own comfort zone to experience other things that I had
never done before.

2023
DAY 5- MAY 12,

The last day of the week, which is also the fifth day of work immersion was
exhausting. I had a lot of things to do and accomplish at that time, so I felt really tired.
At first, I was assigned to cook and wait until 12 p.m. before we took our lunch. We
were preparing for the product testing when one of our batch mate talked to me and
said that I needed to attend a meeting. The said meeting lasted for an hour, and
before I could bid goodbye to my colleagues, I received a message that the teachers
selected for the food testing were already there. I was assigned to present our
product together with Mr. Sison and Ms. Malveda, so I hurried to our booth. I must
say that the presentation went well since I’m pretty sure that what we answered to
their questions was well clear and explained.

DAY 6 - MAY 15,
2023

2023
DAY 6.- MAY 15,

Nothing new at the second week of working

immersion aside from preparing our booth early than
usual. Since it was Monday, our section doesn’t have
classes the reason why we can prepare our things
early. It was also an advantage to us since we have
more time to sell and promote our product, also
means that we have more income.

DAY 7- MAY 16,
2023

The seventh week of working immersion was unlike the previous

ones. We still have customers, but fewer than before. Perhaps because
it has been days since we began selling our product, customers are
tired of buying the same product over and over. We didn’t make much
money that day, but we also didn’t lose much. That’s when I realized
that a business doesn’t always make a lot of money because there will
be times when you don’t have many customers. However, this is not an
excuse to give up right away. It’s just a hiccup in your business that you
must overcome in order to grow.

DAY 8- MAY 17,
2023

Wednesday, the eighth day of immersion, was tiring. We went to

school earlier than usual since we needed to prepare for the booth
competition. While I was busy making the tarpaulin, the other members
were cutting our product name and colored paper for banderitas. We
designed the booth together until it was presentable and beautiful to look
at. Later, I was assigned to present our booth together with Mr. Sison and
Ms. Ducay. Not just we present the booth itself but we also present our
product. I was surprised since I thought they would only evaluate the
booth. I wasn’t informed that they would also evaluate the product.

2023
DAY 9- MAY 18,

The ninth day of immersion was unexpected. Everything

seemed fine at first. Customers purchased and waited for their
orders. Not until the rain starts to pour. It was so strong to the
point that we had to stop cooking. The extension cords we use got
wet from the rain, we really need to stop cooking so it do not
cause any hazard. Rainwater also entered the booth. The rain last
for so long that is why we had no other choice but to cancel the
few pending orders we have.

DAY 10 - MAY 19,
2023

2023
DAY 10 - MAY 19,

The last day of that week was memorable for me. Maybe
because it was also the last day of immersion. After we sell and
promote our product, we decided to pack up our things earlier than
the usual. We finished cooking our product before the clock strikes at
12 noon. After that, we take a rest and put away all the things
including the used tent. We returned our things to the classroom
while the monoblocks we used were returned to the covered court.

PART III:
REFLECTION
Before graduating from grade 12 and moving on to the next stage of
their desired success, work immersion is a crucial part of their lives. This
type of activity can provide every student with firsthand knowledge of
what they will encounter if they consider working in the field they are
interested in going into. At first, I never thought that performing this
activity could help me practice my skills and discover something about
myself.
The first time I heard that we had a subject called Work Immersion
was when one of our teacher shared his thought about it. I was thrilled
thinking that it would be fun since we had a chance to experience
working in the field we want to be part of someday. But the excitement
we had backfire when our teachers said that our work Immersion will
only held at the school. I was a bit disappointed because I really wanted
to experience working in a field just like other student but we don't have
a choice. On a bright side, our safety will be ensured since we're on the
school.
I learned so much while doing the immersion. The first one is to be
kind. It is inevitable that some customers will complain especially if they
waited for so long to get their order. The proverb "customer is always
right" can be inserted in this matter. When I was young, I don't get it why
grown ups always said that thing cause I believed that a person can't be
right all the time. But I guess it's businesses way to console the customers
so that they don't get tired of enjoying the product offered even if they
complain a lot. Also, I realized that good communication is the key to
attract more customers. I had given a chance to hand out our flyers
together with my other groupmates. We talked to our potential
customers to promote our business. That helps us gain more customer
since they're persuade to buy our product.
To sum up, work immersion will help us in our future career. Those
knowledge we gained and skills we practiced can apply in the field we
wanted to be part of. It give students an avenue to improve themselves
by experiencing the real world, work immersion must be first-hand to
help students acquire knowledge and experience that can help them
grow as individuals.

APPENDICES
COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK

HIGHLIGHT

One of the best things that happened during our first week of
immersion was when Mr. Nahial bought a lot of our product. He gave it to
the students who helped him arrange the items to be used in his band.
Also, the famous couple, Mark and Ivan was a certified kekki. We were
given a chance to take a photo of them. And I was honored to give them my
service since Marc was my friend ever since we were in the 7 th grade, I
adore their relationship so much.

HIGHLIGHT

For me, these are the highlights for our second week of working
Immersion. A lot of things happened that week that gives me a lot of
realization in life.
