China Pakistan Economic Corridor 5 of 63
1) CPEC: Development of Gwadar
 Gwadar (located in Baluchistan province) crux of CPEC. It is the link
between China's ambitious One Belt, One Road project, and Maritime
Silk Road project. US$800mn worth of projects are targeted in Gwadar by
Dec 2017.
 China will provide grant of US$230mn for the construction of new
international airport in Gwadar expected to be operational in 2018.
 Gwadar city will also be developed with the help of interest free loan from
Exim Bank of China to finance projects such as:
 300MW coal power plant.
 Desalinization plant.
 300 bed hospital.
 Expressway along Gwadar's East Bay.
 Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute.

THE CONCEPT OF ONE BELT AND ONE
ROAD
The “One Belt One Road” concept has
international strategic importance. The One Belt
One Road initiative covers countries and regions
with a total population of 4.4 billion and a total
economic volume of US$ 21 trillion, 63 % and 29 %
respectively of the World’s total.
According to the assessment of the
Corridor, the plan is involved in laying the
foundation for regional cooperation, improving
economic growth, offering trade diversifications,
investing in transportation, mining and energy
sectors and creating political flexibility. It is a vision
with world-changing implications, an unfolding plan
that would weave much of Asia, Europe, Africa,
Oceania and the Middle East much more closely
together through a patchwork of diplomacy, new
infrastructure and free trade zones.
