SCADA

WHAT IS SCADA?
SCADA stands for Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition. SCADA refers to a system that collects data from various IO signals at a factory, plant or in other remote locations and then sends this data to a central computer which then manages and controls the data.

WHAT IS DATA ACQUISITION?


Process of retrieving control information from the equipment which is out of order or may lead to some problem. Continuous monitoring of the equipment to which it is employed. Data accessed forwarded onto a telemetry system ready for transfer to the different sites.

Short for remote terminal unit Installed at remote location Collects data, codes the data into a format that is transmittable Transmits the data back to a master Collects information from the master device and implements processes that are directed by the master. Input channels for sensing or metering Output channels for control, indication or alarms Communications port.

PLCs vs RTUs
PLCs used as field devices because: more economical versatile flexible configurable

Presents process data to a human operator operator monitors and controls the process from here Master device
