DEFINITION OF
FAMILY
• family is a group of people who share
common ancestors or people related
by marriage
MEMEBERS OF IMMEDIATE
FAMILY
• the parents are a mother and a father
• the offsprings are a daughter and a son
• the siblings are a sister and a brother
MEMBERS OF EXTENDED
FAMILY
• the grandparents are a grandmother and a grandfather
• the siblings of parents are an aunt and an uncle
• the offsprings of parents’ siblings are the cousins
• the siblings-in-law are the siblings of your spouse
• the parents-in-law are the parents of your spouse
TYPES OF FAMILIES
• nuclear family – it is the traditional type of family structure, it consists of two parents and
children
• single parent family – it consists of one parent raising one or more children on his own
• extended family – it is a family that extends beyond the nuclear family, consisting of
parents like father, mother, and their children, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins, all
living in the same household
• childless family – it consists of two partners living together
• step family - is a family where at least one parent has children that are not biologically or
adoptive related to the other spouse or partner
• grandparent family - is a family with grandchildren and no parents present in the
intervening generation
