POWER AMPLIFIER
A power amplifier is an electronic amplifier designed to increase the
magnitude of power of a given input signal.
Example:-
The power of the input signal is increased to a level high enough to
drive loads of output devices like speakers, headphones, RF
transmitters
TYPES OF POWER AMPLIFIER
Audio Power Amplifiers
 This type of power amplifiers are used for increasing the
magnitude of power of a weaker audio Signal.
 The amplifiers used in speaker driving circuitries of televisions,
mobile phones etc. come under this category.

Radio Frequency Power Amplifiers

 Wireless transmissions require modulated waves to be sent over
long distances through air.
 The signals are transmitted using antennas and the range of
transmission depends on the magnitude of power of signals fed to
the antenna. For Example, FM radio signal FM 89, FM 91,FM
95, FM 100, FM 106.2 etc. in Lahore, Terrestrial TV signal PTV
Home Pakistan, Door darshan (DD Channel) India

TYPES OF POWER AMPLIFIER
DC Power Amplifiers
 DC power amplifiers are used to amplify the power of
a PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) signals.
 They are used in electronic control systems which
need high power signals to drive motors or actuators.

MOSFET
Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor
 A metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET,
MOS-FET, or MOS FET) is a field-effect transistor (FET with an
insulated gate) where the voltage determines the conductivity of
the device.
MOSFET
Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor
TYPES OF MOSFET
Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor
1.) Depletion Mode: The transistor requires the Gate-
Source voltage (VGS) to switch the device “OFF”. The
depletion-mode MOSFET is equivalent to a “Normally
MODES Closed” switch.
2.) Enhancement Mode: The transistor requires a
Gate-Source voltage(VGS) to switch the device “ON”.
The enhancement-mode MOSFET is equivalent to a
“Normally Open” switch.
P-Channel Depletion MOSFET
P-Channel Enhancement MOSFET
TYPES
N-Channel Depletion MOSFET
N-Channel Enhancement MOSFET
P-CHANNEL MOSFET
Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor
The drain and source are heavily doped p+ region and the
substrate is in n-type. The current flows due to the flow of
positively charged holes, and that’s why known as p-
channel MOSFET
N-CHANNEL MOSFET
Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor
The drain and source are heavily doped N+ region and the
substrate is p-type. The current flows due to the flow of
negatively charged electrons and that’s why known as n-
channel MOSFET.
APPLICATIONS
Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor
 Amplifiers
 Regulation for DC Motors
 Constructions of Chopper Amplifiers
 Switching and Amplifying Signals
