RELATION SYMBOLS.
M4NS-IB-12.4

QUARTER 1 WEEK 2
DAY 3
CHECKING OF ASSIGNMENT
Encircle the correct answer for each number when
rounded to its underlined digit.
1. 24 782 24 000 25 000
2. 51 920 50 000 60 000
3. 47 519 47 000 48 000
4. 82 812 82 000 83 000
5. 79 145 70 000 80 000
REVIEW
Round the following numbers to the
underlined digit.
1) 35 698= 36,000
2) 64 872= 60,000
3) 63 148= 63,000
4) 93 547=
90,000
5) 98 120=
98,000
MOTIVATION
Do you know how to compare
numbers?

If you are comparing numbers where the

first number is smaller than the other,
you can use the symbol < (less than
sign).
MOTIVATION
So, if you compare 2 139 and 2 234, we say 2 139 is less
than 2 234.
2 139 < 2 234
If the two numbers that you are comparing are of equal
value, you can use the symbol = (equal sign) to show that
the two numbers are equal.
So, if you compare 63 147 and 63 147, we say 63 147 is
equal to 63 147.
63 147 = 63 147
Therefore, >, <, and = are the symbols we use to compare
numbers.
PRESENTATION
When comparing numbers, we
use the symbols > (greater
than), < (less than), and =
(equals).
PRESENTATION
When we compare bigger numbers, we
compare the digits starting from the left.
The greater the value of the digit, the
greater is the value of the number. Look
at the example below.
PRESENTATION
Example: Compare and arrange:
34,821 33,952 35,309
PRESENTATION
Remember:
1) Look at the first digit of the number from the
left. If all the numbers are the same proceed to the
next digits.
2) Do the same procedure until you find which
number is the greatest or the least.
3) Then arrange the numbers according to what is
ordered.
EXERCISE 1 (ORAL)
Which number is less? Write your answers
in your notebook.
1) 23 456 32 457
2) 45 236 44 538
3) 21 015 21 510
4) 87 128 78 357
5) 25 741 52 741
EXERCISE 2 (ORAL)
Which number is greater? Write your
answers in your notebook.
1) 67 412 67 214
2) 21 470 31 105
3) 56 489 56 984
4) 87 671 78 231
5) 59 124 95 147
PRACTICE (5 MINS.)
Write the symbols >, <, or = in the space between
the numbers to compare their value.

Assignment #4

GENERALIZATION
To compare numbers, compare the digits in the
highest place value. If they are equal, go to the
next place value. If they are not, determine the
number which is greater or lesser.
We use the symbol < for “is less than”, > for “is
greater than”, and = for “is equal”.

DAY 4
REVIEW
Which of the following shows correct comparison?
Write the letter of the correct answer.
MOTIVATION
Can you arrange the following numbers in increasing
order?
345, 786, 245, 120, 873
To arrange the numbers in increasing or
decreasing order, compare two numbers at a
time. Do the same procedure with the other
numbers to be arranged. Then arrange the
numbers according to what is ordered.
PRESENTATION
Read, understand and solve:
Allesandra and Shahanni are pupils of
Toclong Elementary School and both
members of Eskwela Kooperatiba.
Allesandra has saved PhP8 495 while
Shahanni saved
PhP8 945. Who saved more?
PRESENTATION
Say: Start at the left and compare the
digits by place values.
Find the first place where the digits are
different.
8 495 < 8 945
Shahanni has saved more.
PRESENTATION
To order numbers from least to greatest,
we will find first, the least number and
then the greatest and vice versa. After
doing that, we compare the remaining
numbers.
PRACTICE
Arrange the numbers from least to greatest
or Increasing Order.
1)346, 476, 556, _____ , ______, ______
