RECAP
The ADDIE Model
 is an instructional design
methodology used to help
organize and streamline the
production of your course
content. Developed in the
1970’s, ADDIE is still the
most commonly used model
for instructional design.
What is ADDIE is used by training developers and instructional
designers for creating courses that can cater for the needs
ADDIE of the learners. It is an Instructional System Design or ISD
framework which consists of five phases which also make up
Model? the name ADDIE, i.e. Analysis, Design, Development,
Implementation and Evaluation.
• As the name suggests, the Analysis stage is
meant to analyze the needs of the audience and
to determine what might be the best way to
cater for the needs of the learners. The
instructional needs and desired results are
identified during this stage. This stage
identifies the problem, the audience, the
learning goals and the time needed for the
development process.
• The Design stage is meant for drafting an
outline for the content and how it will be
designed. This includes converting the
learning goals into clear learning objectives,
content planning to sketch out storyboards
and wireframes, and scripts written for the
development of videos and voiceovers.
• The outline created during the Design stage is
used to develop content during the
development stage. During this stage the
assessment tool is also created to evaluate the
content later. The storyboards and wireframes
created in the previous step are used for the
development of content and videos and
voiceovers are recorded and edited.
• This is the stage when the final
product is presented to the intended
audience, such as in a classroom.
The implementation phase might
include a pilot test or an actual
launch of the final product.
• The evaluation stage assesses if the
desired outcomes were achieved and if
the problem that was to be addressed
was resolved. The evaluation in the
ADDIE Model can be formative and
summative. The former is used for
assessment throughout out the ADDIE
process, whereas the later is used at
the end to determine if the desired
results were achieved.
Advantages of the
ADDIE Model
• The advantages of the ADDIE model instructional design are as
follows-
• ADDIE Model template has a solid and clear framework that lays
the foundation for similar models
• ADDIE design model has an on-point structure where the instructors
will know about every stage in the process and take them
methodically
• ADDIE is used for the blended, online, and offline learning
environment
• ADDIE Training Model helps to measure the learner’s needs
• The ADDIE process can measure behavioral outcomes
• ADDIE design model is helpful for instructors as they can easily
assess the results and objectives and understand the part of the
learning course that needs specific attention
Advantages of the
ADDIE Model
• The model ADDIE measures development costs and
time
• ADDIE is flexible and can be used by instructors for
traditional instructions in almost all industries.
• ADDIE Model can easily align well-defined goals
with an effective training program
• ADDIE Training Model is very popular in higher
education and the corporate world
• ADDIE places design in the core-creation process to
make it straightforward and simple to use
• ADDIE Model is capable of gathering an
unimaginable amount of subject matter in the design
process through research that is not possible for
other models
Disadvantages of the
ADDIE Model
• The disadvantages of the ADDIE model are as follows
• It requires comprehensive analysis and in case the
critical elements are not accessed then it will give
incorrect results
• The Model is very expensive
• It does not have any provision for including iterative
design
• The model cannot identify behavioral changes
• It is time-consuming
Disadvantages of
the ADDIE Model
• The model ignores several realities and
this results in missed opportunities
• It is ineffective in the formation and
evaluation of design alternatives.
• The process is very rigid and does not
have much scope for creativity
• It is inflexible and thus cannot make
adjustments related to sudden project
changes
• The model ADDIE is considered
outdated by modern learning
professionals
