Respiratory system

Do you know how your body gets oxygen from the air and removes carbon dioxide from your body?
Correct! It's because of the respiratory system. Do you know how it works? The following explanations
are written to help you understand the process clearly. The first stage of respiration is deep breathing or
inhalation. This process brings air from outside the body into the lungs. From the lungs, oxygen travels
through the blood vessels to the heart, which then pumps oxygen-rich blood to all parts of the body.
Oxygen then moves from the bloodstream into the cells, which completes the first phase of respiration.
Inside the cell, oxygen is used in a separate energy-generating process that produces carbon dioxide as
a by-product. The second phase of respiration begins when carbon dioxide moves from the cells into
the bloodstream which carries the carbon dioxide to the heart. Then, it pumps blood containing carbon
dioxide to the lungs. In the lungs, breathing out or exhaling removes carbon dioxide from the body,
thereby completing the respiration cycle.
In addition, respiration has important organ systems and their functions :
1. nasal cavity The nasal cavity has a mucous membrane that functions to catch objects asking to
enter through the respiratory tract
2. Pharynx / pharynx Is a respiratory organ system that is located behind the nasal cavity which
functions as a junction between the respiratory tract and the respiratory tract
3. Larynx / base Is the throat which has a valve (epiglottis) which functions to regulate the
passage of food and respiratory air with their respective channels
4. Trachea/windpipe The problem of the respiratory organs in the form of a pipe with a length of
about 10 cm functions the same as the nasal cavity to filter foreign objects
5. Bronchi / windpipe Is the connecting channel between the nasal cavity, mucous membranes,
and lungs
