Recruitment and Selection

“The process of attracting job applicants from would-be


employees is referred as RECRUITMENT”.

“Whereas SELECTION is the process of selecting a qualified


person who can successfully do a job and deliver valuable
contributions to the organization”.

Selection is the process of selecting a qualified person who can successfully do a job and deliver
valuable contributions to the organization. A selection system should depend on JOB ANALYSIS.
This ensures that the selection criteria are job related and will provide meaningful organizational

First thing to do when a business think they need to hire some one ?

A job analysis identifies and records the


responsibilities and tasks relating to a job.

Where as a job description is list of tasks that a person


might to execute tasks, or functions, and
responsibilities of a position.

How can we use the job description ?


• It is given to the candidates for the job so they know exactly what the job entails.

• It will allow a ,job specification to be drawn up, to see if the candidates 'match up to the job',
so that people with the right skills will be employed.

JOB SPECIFICATION
A job specification defines the knowledge, skills and abilities
that are required to perform a job in an organization. These
can be determined by performing a detailed job analysis and
its corresponding description. The job description will usually
include:

•The level of educational qualifications


•The amount of experience and type of experience
• Special skills, knowledge or particular aptitude
• Personal characteristics, such as type of personality.

What do you see in this picture

An interview is a conversation between two or more


people where questions are asked by the interviewer to
elicit facts or statements from the interviewee.
We can say that a job interview is a type
of employment test that involves a conversation between
a job applicant and representative of the employing
organization. Interviews are one of the most popularly
used devices for employee selection.

The purpose of a job interview is two fold: It offers the employer valuable insight into your personality
and abilities, and it allows you the chance to discern whether your credentials and career goals match up
with what the company seeks. Other purposes of an interview are the following

Induction Training

As it is a systematic training that an employee receives when


he/she first joins a business or organization so it may help to
avoid systematic training that an employee receives when
he/she first joins a business or organization

Training provided to new employees by the employer in order to assist in adjustment to

and the people working around them is referred as induction training

On the Job Training
training (OJT) is a form of training taking place in a normal
On-the-job working place or station that means an employee’s
training at the place of work while he or she is doing the
actual job is referred as OJT

Off the Job Training
Employee training at a site away from the actual work
environment. It often utilizes lectures, case studies, role
playing, simulation, etc. Off-the-job training is provided
away from the immediate workplace.

future in terms of the number and skills of employees

Downsizing is referred as reducing the size of a


company by eliminating workers and/or divisions
