Cells divide to produce

new cells
Meiosis-produces
variation
Mendel concluded in his experiment with
the pea plants that one allele is always
dominant over the other. This resulted in
just two phenotypes for each
characteristics. When we say “height” that
is the characteristic. When we say “tall” or
“short” those are the possible phenotypes.
And when the tall phenotype is dominant
over the short one, the resulting offspring
will be tall also.

Homozygous short (tt) which is a
recessive trait and homozygous tall
(TT) which is a dominant trait
produces a heterozygous tall

Think about it…

Do you know that

some of the
inherited traits are
intermediate?
Think about it…
Which do you think,
among the three
Gumamela flowers
registers an
intermediate trait? Why?
Let’s solve this!
Problem:
R is the allele for red color gumamela, while W
is the allele for white gumamela flower. Using
the Punnett Square, determine the trait of their
offspring in the F1 generation.
Guide questions:
1. What are the genotype and phenotype of the
parent? How about the offspring?
2. How many percent is the chance of having an
offspring that is red? White?
3. How many percent is the chance of having an
offspring that is the combination of the parents?
Watch & listen
carefully!
Based on what you have done in
your activity and watched in the
video, what do you think does
incomplete dominance means?
Incomplete dominance is a form of
intermediate inheritance in which one
allele for a specific trait is not
completely dominant over the other
allele. This results in a third phenotype
in which the expressed physical trait
is a combination of the dominant and
recessive phenotypes.
When we say intermediate inheritance,
it means that the inherited phenotype
of the offspring is somewhere in
between the phenotypes of the
parents. This results to a third
phenotype

is medium-sized.
