M4000/M5000 Server
Prerequisite
The OS must have been started.
Procedure
3. Run the following commands to start the Sybase database if it is not running:
Prerequisite
The OS on the computer where the U2000 server is installed must be running properly, and the database must have been
started
Procedure
1. Log in to the OS of the server as the nmsuser user.
2. Run the following command to check whether the U2000 is running:
The application of rights involves defining, assigning, and using rights. Authority management, which is essential
to user management, controls the assignment and usage of rights.
The single-server system is deployed on Windows, Solaris, or SUSE Linux, and supports single-server multiple-
client networking schemes. The clients and the server are connected by means of LAN or WAN, as shown in
Figure 1.
Procedure:
Open U2000 Client
Input:
1. Username
2. Password

Basic Concepts
This topic describes the concepts about the fault management such as alarm, event, alarm status, and alarm severity. These
concepts help you to perform fault management operations.
This topic describes the similarities and differences between an alarm and an event on
the U2000.
Similarities
In the U2000, alarms and events refer to the messages that are sent to the U2000 and
are generated after the statuses of the managed objects are changed.
Differences
The differences between an alarm and an event are described as follows: An alarm
indicates that a fault occurs on the U2000 or a managed object. The fault must be
rectified in time. Otherwise, the U2000 services cannot run properly because the fault
affects the functions of the U2000 or its devices. Users can acknowledge and clear an
alarm.
An event indicates that the state of a managed object changes. The change may not
affect the U2000 services. Users cannot acknowledge and clear an event.
This topic describes how to use alarm severity to identify the severity, significance and
urgency of an alarm. Alarm severities include critical, major, minor, and warning in
descending order. You can use processing policies for different alarm severities and
redefine alarm severities.
The following table describes the alarms of different severities and the corresponding
handling methods.
For Non-NA NEs, alarms come in the following four levels in descending order of
severity: critical, major, minor and warning.
