Vedic Maths Techniques

Vedic Maths:
⮚ Language of mathematics.

⮚ Collection of methods or sutras to solve numerical computations quickly and

faster.

⮚ System of mathematics discovered by Jagadguru Shri Bharathi Tirthaji(A.D1911-

1918).

⮚ Also called as mental mathematics.

⮚ It consists of 16 sutras called Formulae and 13 sub-sutras called
Sub-Formulae.

⮚ It can be helpful to perform mathematical operations quickly and

accurately in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, conics, etc.
Vedic Maths Benefits:
⮚ Calculations become easy and short.
⮚ Solvation in less time.
⮚ Easily verified.
⮚ Committing errors using these sutras is negligible.
⮚ Helps to improve knowledge in mathematics.
⮚ Helps to solve hard problems using mental
caluculations.
Addition tricks:
⮚ Add 654 and 789
● We split the number in sum of 2 numbers. So, the two numbers become 650+4
and 790-1.
● Then, we add the rounded off numbers together. (650+790=1440)
● After that, we take the other term in both the numbers and add them. (4-1=3)
(Since, 4 is added in one and 1 is subtracted in other.)
● We add the numbers obtained from above processes(1440+3=1443). This is
the required answer.
Squaring of numbers ending in 5:
⮚ 45 x 45

‘multiply the previous digit 4 more than one itself then write 25’

4 x 5 = 20
5 x 5 = 25
Answer = 2025
When both the numbers are lower than the
base
⮚ 63 x 68
Nearer to 70 (one zero)
63 -7
68 -2
multiply 7 & 2 = 14
63 -2 = 61
68 – 7 = 61
61 x 7 = 427
Now add 1 in (14) to ones place in 427 and append the value = 4284
When both bases are higher than the base
⮚ 103 x 105
Nearer to 100
103 8
105 10
Multiply 5 & 3 = 15
Next 103+5=108 105+3=108
Now append both values and the answer is 10815
When one number is more and the other
number is less
⮚ 103 x 98
Nearer to 100
103 3
98 -2
Product of the difference values is -6.
Now the value 108-2=101 & 98+3=101
So, 101 x 100 =10100
Now subtract the product of differences from this value 10100 and the answer is
10,094.
Two digit Multiplication
⮚ 46 x 43
4 6
x 4 3

a b
c d
Step1: b x d
Step2: a x d + b x c
Step3: a x c
Three digit multiplication:
⮚ 103 x 105
Steps:
Step1: c x f
Step2: b x f + c x e
Step3: a x f + b x e + c x d
Step4: a x e + b x d
Step5: a x d
Multiplying any number with 5
⮚ Divide the value with 2.
⮚ If it is a integer, add zero at the end.
⮚ If it is not, ignore the remainder and append 5 at the end.
Example:
2783
2783/2 = 1391 and remainder is 1
Append 5 at last and the answer is 13960
Multiplication of 2 digit number with 11
⮚ Multiply 36 with 11
⮚ Put a space between 36 (3 and 6)
⮚ Now just add 3 and 6 and place between them.
So 36 x 11 = 396
Multiply any large value with 12
⮚ 13243 x 12
⮚ Step1: 13243 x 12 = ______6 (Double of last digit 3 is 6)
⮚ Step2: 13243 x 12 = _____16
(Now double 4 is 8, and add it to the last digit 3 is 11)
⮚ Step3: 13243 x 12 = ____916
(Now double 2 is 4 and add it to 4 with carry, 4+4+1=9)
Step 4. 13243 * 12 = __8916 (Now Double 3=6, and add it to 2, 6+2=8)

Step 5. 13243 * 12 = _58916 (Now Double 1=2, and add it to 3, 1+3=5)

Step 6. 13243 * 12 = 158916 (Now Double 0=0, and add it to 1, 0+1=1)

So your final answer of 13243 * 12 = 158916
