Mitosis

A type of cell division that allows body

cells to divide and produce two identical
daughter cells.
Interphase
It is divided into three sub
phases:

1.Gap 1 (G1)
2.Synthesis (S Phase)
3.Gap 2 (G2)

The longest part of the cell

cycle.

Prophase
Metaphase

Prophase
• The chromatin condenses and the
chromosomes become visible.

• The nuclear membrane starts to

break down.

• The mitotic spindle begins to form.

Metaphase
• Chromosomes align at the
cell's equatorial plane.

• The mitotic spindle fibers

attach to the centromeres of
the sister chromatids.
Anaphase
• Sister chromatids are
separated by the shortening of
the spindle fibers.

• Centromeres split and each

chromatid is pulled towards
opposite poles of the cell.
Telophase
• The separated chromosomes begin
to decondense.

• Nuclear membranes start to form

creating two nuclei within the cell.

• The mitotic spindle disassembles.

Cytokinesis
• The cytoplasm divides, and
two daughter cells are
formed.

• The two daughter cells enter

interphase, and the cycle
continues.

Let’s Summarize!
Explain the importance of
mitosis in living organisms
• It allows multicellular organisms to grow by increasing the
number of cells in their bodies.

• It replaces damaged cells with new, healthy ones, allowing

tissues to heal and regenerate.

• For example, when you cut your skin, mitosis enables the
rapid division of skin cells to close the wound and form new
tissue.

3. Which stage does chromatin condenses into chromosomes?
4. When do chromosomes align in center of cell?
5. What is the longest part of the cell cycle?
