Wave, frequency, and velocity

Objective

To Understand the electromagnetic

spectrum and the mathematical
relationships between energy, frequency,
and wavelength of light.
• Ground State is the lowest allowable
energy state of an atom.
• Excited State has a higher energy than
the ground state. (when the e- is further
away from the nucleus).
• Wavelength (λ) is the shortest
distance between equivalent points on a
continous wave.

• Frequency is the number of waves that

pass a given point per second.
• Longer (High) wavelength= low frequency
• Shorter (Low) wavelenght= _____frequeny
• High Frequency= High energy
• Low Frequency=_______ energy
• v= λf
• v= velocity (m/s)
• λ= wavelength (m)
• f= frequency (mHz or Hz)
• Electromagnetic
Spectrum (EM) is
the distribution of
electromagnetic
radiation emitted or
absorbed by that
particular object.
