Presentation 1
What is your
private • full name
• address
information? • phone numbers
• which school you go to
• date of birth
• email address
• usernames and passwords for online accounts or email
accounts
• parent or carer’s bank or credit card details
• photos that show where you live or your school uniform.
How you can protect your personal information
Avoid using your complete/full name when online; use a nickname or a screen name
Don’t share your address with anyone
Never share your contact number or your email address; most people use their name in their email address. It
can give too much information about who you are to others online.
Do not lie about your age; social media has age restrictions for a reason. More often than not the content
available just isn’t appropriate or safe for young people.
If you are unsure whether you should share something, do not do it. Get advice from an adult.
Any images you share shouldn’t have any information about who you are or where you go to school.
Don’t “friend” anyone who isn’t your actual friend in person
Things to remember when sharing
images/media
Always ask anyone involved prior to sharing; if you didn’t have permission to share something involving
someone else take it down immediately!
Consider what you are sharing before you share it. Does it embarrass someone? Is it hurtful? Are there any
factors that identify who you are?
Think about whether what you are sharing is something you would be ok with in 5 years time.
Don’t forward on or share images/media that embarrasses someone else or may be hurtful.
ALWAYS REMEMBER WHAT YOU POST IS REAL AND CAN BE ACCESSED BY OTHERS, once it is
posted it is very hard to completely remove it from the digital world.
