Why K to 12?
It makes the Philippine education system at par with the international
standard of 12-year basic education thereby contributing to a better
educated society capable of pursuing productive employment,
entrepreneurship, or higher education studies.
Bases of K to 12 Implementation
1. Insufficient mastery of basic competencies due to congested
curriculum.

Comparative Achievement Levels in Mathematics and Science


2. The Philippines is the only remaining country in Asia with a 10-
year basic education program

3. Employability of Filipino High School Graduates


Curriculum Tracks
The student after undergoing Senior High School can choose among
4 (four) tracks: 1.Academic, 2.Technical-Vocational-Livelihood,
3.Sports and 4.Arts and Designs
Academic Track includes 4 (four) strands: 1.Business, Accountancy,
Management (BAM), 2.Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), 3.
Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM); 4. General
Academic Strand (GAS).
Senior High School Curriculum
The SHS curriculum has a thirty-one (31) subjects. These are grouped
into 15 core subjects, 7 contextualized and 9 specialization subjects.

Grading System
Legal Basis: DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2015 “Policy Guidelines on
Classroom Assessment for K to 12 Basic Education Program

The K to 12 education program uses standards and a competency-


based grading system.

Minimum grade to pass is 60 which is transmuted to 75 on the report


card.

Computation of Learner’s Progress
Kindergarten
Uses checklists and anecdotal records are used instead of numeral
grades
Grades 1 to 12
Written Works, Performance Tasks, Quarterly Assessment
WWs and PTs shall be administered to assess the content and
performance standards that describe the knowledge, abilities, and
skills that the learners are expected to demonstrate.
Computation of Learner’s Progress
Grades 1 to 12
Include the following:
a. Student’s Learning Portfolio – This includes all the pieces of
evidence of learning within the grading period including self-
reflections, self-evaluations of performance tasks guided by rubrics,
and self-selected outputs in learning modules.

b. Minimum of 4 WWs, 4PTs within the quarter, preferably 1 in 2 weeks


integrating 2 or more competencies.

c. All competencies should be covered by the PTs.
